5 Best Crystals for Beginners — and How to Use Them

June 2026 · Star's Crystals

Starting a crystal collection can feel overwhelming — there are hundreds of stones, each with their own properties, and it's hard to know where to begin. The good news? You don't need many crystals to start feeling their energy. Here are the five we recommend for every beginner.

"Crystals don't work for you — they work with you. Your intention is everything." ✦

1. Clear Quartz — The Master Healer

If you only buy one crystal, make it clear quartz. Known as the master healer, clear quartz amplifies energy and intention. It works with whatever you need — clarity, focus, healing, manifestation. Place it on your desk while you work, hold it during meditation, or use it to amplify the power of other crystals nearby.

2. Amethyst — Calm & Protection

Amethyst is the stone of calm, clarity and spiritual protection. It's perfect for your bedroom — place it on your nightstand to promote restful sleep and peaceful dreams. It also helps quiet an overactive mind, making it a wonderful meditation companion. Our amethyst chip tealight holders are a beautiful way to bring this energy into your space.

3. Rose Quartz — Love & Self Worth

Rose quartz is the stone of unconditional love — but it's not just about romantic love. It's deeply connected to self-love, self-worth and emotional healing. Keep a piece in your bedroom or bathroom, hold it when you need a confidence boost, or carry it with you as a gentle reminder to be kind to yourself.

4. Black Tourmaline — Protection

Black tourmaline is one of the most powerful protective stones available. It creates an energetic shield around you and your space, deflecting negative energy and promoting a sense of security. Place it near your front door, on your windowsill, or carry it when you're going somewhere that feels energetically challenging.

5. Citrine — Abundance & Joy

Citrine is sunshine in crystal form. Known as the merchant's stone, it's associated with abundance, prosperity, and positive energy. Unlike most crystals, citrine doesn't hold negative energy and never needs cleansing. Keep it in your wallet, your workspace, or anywhere you want to invite more light and abundance into your life.

CANDLES

Why Soy Wax is Better — and Why it Matters

June 2026 · Star's Crystals

Walk into any shop and you'll find candles everywhere. But not all candles are made equal — and the difference matters more than you might think, both for your health and for the planet.

"We chose soy wax from day one — not because it's trendy, but because it's genuinely better in every way that matters." ✦

What is Paraffin Wax?

Most cheap candles are made from paraffin wax — a petroleum by-product derived from crude oil. When burned, paraffin releases toxic chemicals including benzene and toluene, which are known carcinogens. It also produces more soot, which can stain your walls and irritate your lungs.

Why We Use Soy Wax

Soy wax is made from soybean oil — a natural, renewable resource. It burns cleaner, slower and cooler than paraffin, meaning no harmful toxins in your air, minimal soot, and a longer lasting candle. It's also biodegradable and much better for the environment.

THE BENEFITS OF SOY WAX

Our Wax

At Star's Crystals we use Nature Wax C3 for our container candles — one of the most trusted soy waxes used by professional candle makers. For our sculpted wax melts and shaped pieces, we use Kerasoy Pillar Wax — a biodegradable soy blend that holds beautiful detail in moulds.

Both are 100% natural, vegan, and paraffin-free. Because what you bring into your home should be as clean and intentional as the energy you're creating. ✦

RITUAL

How to Set Up Your First Altar at Home

June 2026 · Star's Crystals

An altar is simply a dedicated space for your spiritual practice — a place that holds your intentions, your tools, and your energy. You don't need a big space, expensive items, or years of experience. You just need intention.

"Your altar is your anchor — a physical reminder of your spiritual practice and what matters to you." ✦

Choose Your Space

Your altar can be as big or small as you like. A windowsill, a corner of a shelf, a bedside table, or even a small tray works perfectly. Choose somewhere you'll see it regularly and somewhere that feels calm and personal to you.

What to Include

There are no rules — only guidelines. A traditional altar often includes elements representing the four directions: earth, air, fire and water. But the most important thing is that everything on it means something to you.

IDEAS FOR YOUR ALTAR

Keep it Alive

Your altar should evolve with you. Change it with the seasons, with moon phases, or simply when something feels complete. Light your candle regularly. Cleanse the space with sage or Palo Santo. Sit with it, even for a few minutes. The magic is in the consistency. ✦

HERBS & RITUAL

The Magic of Herbs — A Beginner's Guide to Herb Blends

June 2026 · Star's Crystals

Herbs have been used in ritual, medicine and spiritual practice for thousands of years across every culture in the world. Their connection to the earth gives them a powerful energetic quality that makes them perfect companions for intention setting, ritual and spellwork.

"Herbs carry the memory of the earth. Working with them connects you to something ancient and real." ✦

How to Use Herb Blends in Your Practice

There are many ways to work with our Love Manifestation Herb Blend and ritual herbs generally. Here are some of our favourites:

BURN THEM

Place a small amount on a heat-safe dish or charcoal disc and light it. The smoke carries your intentions. Always burn in a well-ventilated space.

SCATTER THEM

Scatter herbs around your space, on your altar, or in a circle around your candle during ritual work. This creates an energetic boundary and amplifies your intention.

USE IN A RITUAL BATH

Add herbs to a warm bath for a deeply cleansing and intentional soak. Add a handful to the water and set your intention as you step in.

CREATE A SPELL POUCH

Place herbs in a small cloth bag along with crystals and a written intention. Carry it with you or place it under your pillow.

Our Love Manifestation Herb Blend

Our blend contains nettle for self-worth and protection, valerian root for emotional depth and calming obsession, and lavender for attraction and emotional harmony. Each herb is chosen with intention to support your love practice — whether that's calling in a relationship, healing from one, or deepening your love for yourself. ✦

CANDLE CARE

How to Get the Most Out of Your Candle — 7 Simple Tips

June 2026 · Star's Crystals

A good candle deserves good care. Follow these seven simple tips and your Star's Crystals candle will burn beautifully, smell amazing, and last as long as possible.

"The first burn is the most important. Get it right and your candle will reward you every time." ✦

1. TRIM YOUR WICK

Before every single burn, trim your wick to 5mm. A wick that's too long creates a larger flame, more soot, and burns your candle faster. A small pair of scissors or a dedicated wick trimmer works perfectly.

2. THE FIRST BURN IS EVERYTHING

On your first burn, let the wax melt all the way to the edge of the container. This is called a full melt pool and it prevents tunnelling — where the candle burns straight down the middle leaving wax on the sides. Allow at least 2–3 hours for the first burn.

3. DON'T BURN FOR MORE THAN 4 HOURS

Burning for longer than 4 hours at a time causes the wick to "mushroom" and the wax to overheat. Extinguish, let it cool completely, trim the wick, and relight.

4. KEEP AWAY FROM DRAFTS

Drafts cause uneven burning and excessive flickering. Keep your candle away from open windows, fans and air conditioning vents.

5. NEVER BLOW IT OUT

Blowing out a candle sends smoke and soot into the wax and the air. Use a candle snuffer or gently dip the wick into the melted wax and straighten it back up — this extinguishes it cleanly with no smoke.

6. STORE PROPERLY

Keep your candle in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Sunlight can fade the colour and affect the fragrance.

7. REUSE THE JAR

Once your candle is finished, pop the jar in the freezer and the remaining wax will contract and pop out easily. Clean with warm soapy water and you have a beautiful little jar for storage, plants or whatever you fancy. ✦

WAX MELTS

Wax Melts vs Candles — Which is Right for You?

June 2026 · Star's Crystals

Both candles and wax melts fill your home with beautiful fragrance — but they work differently, suit different lifestyles, and create different experiences. Here's a simple breakdown to help you choose.

"There's no wrong choice — many of our customers love both for different moments and moods." ✦

Candles

Candles create a warm, flickering ambience that wax melts simply can't replicate. The visual experience of a burning flame is deeply calming and ritual in itself — which is why candles are so central to spiritual practice. Our ritual candles are designed to be lit with intention, creating a full sensory experience as part of your practice.

CANDLES ARE GREAT FOR:

Wax Melts

Wax melts are brilliant for filling a room with strong, lasting fragrance. Because the wax is melted rather than burned, it releases scent more slowly and consistently — and you can mix different melts to create your own signature blend. They're also safer around children and pets as there's no open flame (just the tealight underneath).

WAX MELTS ARE GREAT FOR:

Our Verdict

If you want atmosphere, ritual and ambience — choose a candle. If you want powerful, long-lasting fragrance throughout your home — choose wax melts. And honestly? Most of our customers use both. Light a ritual candle during your morning practice and melt a Solar Prosperity melt to keep your home smelling incredible all day. ✦

Himalayan Salt Benefits — Why You Need This Ancient Crystal in Your Home

June 2026 · Star's Crystals

Pink Himalayan salt is one of the oldest and most revered natural minerals on earth — formed over 250 million years ago deep within the Himalayan mountains. It's not just beautiful to look at. Working with Himalayan salt in your home can genuinely shift the energy of your space and support your wellbeing in powerful ways.

"Salt has been used for centuries to cleanse, protect and purify. It is one of nature's most ancient and powerful tools." ✦

What is Himalayan Salt?

Himalayan salt is a naturally occurring mineral rich in iron oxide — which gives it that distinctive soft pink colour. Unlike table salt, it is completely unrefined and free from additives, retaining all of its natural minerals and energetic properties.

Himalayan Salt Benefits

ENERGY CLEANSING

Salt is one of the most powerful natural cleansers of negative energy. Placing Himalayan salt in your home — particularly near doorways or in rooms that feel heavy or stagnant — helps to absorb and neutralise negative energy, leaving the space feeling lighter and clearer.

AIR PURIFICATION

Himalayan salt is hygroscopic, meaning it naturally attracts water molecules from the air. It is believed to draw in airborne pollutants and allergens along with this moisture, helping to purify the air in your space — particularly when warmed by a tealight or lamp.

PROMOTES CALM AND RELAXATION

The warm, soft glow of a Himalayan salt tealight holder or lamp creates an instantly calming atmosphere. The gentle amber light is far softer than artificial lighting and has a naturally grounding, soothing effect — perfect for winding down in the evening or creating a meditation space.

SUPPORTS SLEEP

Many people find that keeping a Himalayan salt lamp or tealight holder in the bedroom helps promote deeper, more restful sleep. The calming energy and soft light help signal to the body and mind that it's time to slow down.

CHAKRA BALANCING

In spiritual practice, Himalayan salt is associated with the root chakra — our foundation, our sense of safety and our connection to the earth. Working with salt in your practice helps to ground your energy and restore a sense of stability and security.

Best Crystals for Anxiety — Calm Your Mind Naturally

June 2026 · Star's Crystals

Anxiety can feel overwhelming — a constant hum of worry, tension and restlessness that's hard to switch off. While crystals are not a substitute for professional support, many people find that working with certain stones helps to soothe the nervous system, ground scattered energy and bring a sense of calm back to both mind and body.

"Crystals work as gentle reminders — to breathe, to slow down, to come back to yourself." ✦

Amethyst — The Stone of Calm

Amethyst is perhaps the most well-known crystal for anxiety and stress. Its deeply calming purple energy works directly with the mind — quieting overthinking, easing tension and promoting a sense of inner peace. Keep amethyst on your bedside table to encourage restful sleep, hold it during moments of overwhelm, or wear it as a pendant to carry its calming energy with you throughout the day.

Blue Lace Agate — Gentle Communication

Blue lace agate is one of the most gentle and soothing crystals available. Its soft blue energy calms an overactive mind, eases social anxiety and helps you communicate with clarity rather than fear. It's particularly helpful if your anxiety manifests as difficulty speaking up or being heard.

Black Tourmaline — Grounding and Protection

When anxiety makes you feel scattered, ungrounded or overwhelmed by external energy, black tourmaline is your anchor. It creates a powerful energetic shield around you and helps you feel safe, solid and protected. Hold it in your non-dominant hand during anxious moments and feel its weight grounding you back into your body.

Lepidolite — The Anti-Anxiety Stone

Lepidolite actually contains lithium — the same mineral used in some anti-anxiety medications — making it a uniquely powerful stone for emotional balance. It has a gentle, stabilising energy that helps to smooth out emotional extremes and bring a sense of equilibrium and calm.

Howlite — Stillness and Patience

Howlite is one of the most calming stones in the crystal kingdom. Its white marbled energy promotes stillness, patience and a quietening of the overactive mind. It's particularly good for anxiety that manifests as insomnia, racing thoughts or an inability to switch off.

Best Crystals for Depression — Stones to Lift Your Energy

June 2026 · Star's Crystals

Depression can make the world feel grey, heavy and far away. If you're struggling, please know that crystals work best alongside professional support — they are not a cure. But many people find that working with the right stones can gently lift the heaviness, restore a flicker of hope and help them reconnect with their own light.

"Even the smallest shift in energy matters. Sometimes all you need is something to hold onto." ✦

Citrine — Sunshine in Crystal Form

Citrine is one of the most joyful and uplifting crystals available. Known as the stone of light, it carries the energy of the sun — warm, bright and life-giving. Citrine helps to dissolve heaviness, restore optimism and reconnect you with a sense of possibility. Unlike most crystals, citrine doesn't hold negative energy, making it a wonderful companion for difficult times.

Carnelian — Warmth and Vitality

Depression often strips away motivation, drive and the ability to feel pleasure. Carnelian — a deep, fiery orange stone — works directly with these qualities. It restores vitality, sparks creativity and reignites your inner flame. Hold a carnelian freeform in your hand when you need to find the energy to take even a small step forward.

Rose Quartz — Self Compassion

Depression often comes with a cruel inner voice — harsh self-criticism, shame and a feeling of unworthiness. Rose quartz gently counters this energy with unconditional love and compassion. It doesn't push you to feel better — it simply wraps you in warmth and reminds you that you are worthy of love exactly as you are.

Tiger's Eye — Courage and Strength

Tiger's Eye is a grounding, empowering stone that helps you find courage when everything feels difficult. It supports you in taking action even when motivation is low, and helps restore a sense of personal power and resilience. Wear it as a bracelet or pendant to carry its strength with you.

Sunstone — Joy and Optimism

Sunstone carries the energy of light, warmth and good fortune. It's one of the most uplifting stones in the crystal kingdom — working to counter feelings of hopelessness and disconnection, and gently nudging you back toward joy. Keep it somewhere you'll see it every day as a visual reminder that light always returns.

A Gentle Reminder

If you are struggling with depression, please reach out for professional support. In the UK you can contact your GP, call Samaritans on 116 123 (free, 24/7), or text SHOUT to 85258. You are not alone, and you deserve support. ✦

Best Crystals for Manifestation — Amplify Your Intentions

June 2026 · Star's Crystals

Manifestation is the practice of bringing your desires into reality through focused intention, belief and aligned action. Crystals make powerful allies in this work — they amplify your energy, help you stay focused on your goals and hold the vibration of what you're calling in.

"You are the creator of your own reality. Crystals are simply beautiful tools to help you remember that." ✦

Clear Quartz — The Master Amplifier

Clear quartz is the ultimate manifestation crystal. It amplifies whatever energy and intention you direct into it, making it a powerful tool for any kind of manifestation work. Programme it with your specific intention — hold it, speak your desire aloud into it, and keep it somewhere visible as a constant energetic anchor for your goal.

Citrine — Abundance and Prosperity

Citrine is the stone of abundance. It carries the energy of expansion, optimism and financial flow — making it a favourite for anyone manifesting money, success or career growth. Keep citrine in your wallet, your workspace or your cash box. It's one of the few crystals that never needs cleansing, as it doesn't hold negative energy.

Green Aventurine — The Stone of Opportunity

Green aventurine is known as the luckiest crystal in the kingdom. It opens doors, creates opportunities and attracts good fortune — especially for those who are actively taking steps toward their goals. Wear it as a necklace or carry it in your pocket when you're going somewhere important.

Pyrite — Fool's Gold, Real Power

Pyrite looks like gold because its energy resonates with the same frequency as wealth and abundance. It's a powerful manifestation stone that combines action with attraction — perfect for those who want to manifest not just through dreaming, but through doing. Place pyrite on your desk or workspace to boost productivity and attract success.

Malachite — Transformation and Bold Change

If you're manifesting a major life change — a new job, a new home, a new chapter — malachite is your stone. It's a powerful crystal of transformation, helping to clear old patterns, release what's no longer serving you and make space for the new. Its deep green swirls hold the energy of growth, evolution and bold forward movement.

CRYSTAL CARE

How to Cleanse Your Crystals at Home — 6 Simple Methods

June 2026 · Star's Crystals

Crystals absorb and hold energy — which is exactly what makes them so powerful. But just like a sponge, they need to be wrung out regularly so they can continue working at their best. Cleansing your crystals clears any energy they've absorbed and restores them to their natural vibration. Here are six simple methods you can do at home.

"A cleansed crystal is a crystal working at its full potential. Make it a regular part of your practice." ✦

1. Moonlight

Placing your crystals in moonlight — particularly during a full moon — is one of the most powerful and gentle cleansing methods available. Simply place them on a windowsill or outside overnight and allow the moon's energy to wash them clean. This method is safe for all crystals and also charges them at the same time.

2. Sage or Palo Santo Smoke

Pass your crystal through the smoke of burning sage, Palo Santo or incense. The smoke clears stagnant energy and restores the crystal's natural vibration. Set your intention as you do this — visualise the old energy lifting away with the smoke. This is one of the quickest and most effective methods for regular cleansing.

3. Sound

Sound vibration is a wonderful way to cleanse multiple crystals at once. Use a singing bowl, a tuning fork, or even the sound of a bell or chime. The vibrations pass through the crystals and shake loose any stagnant energy. This is a great method if you have a large collection.

4. Selenite

Selenite is one of the only crystals that doesn't need cleansing itself — and it has the unique ability to cleanse other crystals simply by contact. Place your crystals on a selenite slab or next to a selenite wand overnight and they'll be cleansed and recharged by morning. Easy, effortless and beautiful.

5. Earth Burial

Burying your crystals in the earth — either in your garden or in a pot of soil — connects them back to their natural source and draws out any accumulated energy. Leave them for 24 hours, then brush them clean. This is a particularly powerful method for deeply grounding stones like black tourmaline and obsidian.

6. Dry Salt

Place your crystals in a bowl of dry Himalayan salt or sea salt overnight. Salt is one of the most ancient and powerful purifiers — it draws out negative energy and leaves your crystals feeling fresh and clear. Important: do not use this method for soft, porous or water-soluble crystals like selenite, malachite or pyrite.

What About Water?

You may have heard of cleansing crystals under running water. While this works for hard stones like clear quartz and amethyst, many crystals are damaged by water — including selenite, malachite, pyrite, lepidolite and many others. Always check whether your specific crystal is water-safe before using this method.

DIVINATION

What is a Pendulum — and How Do You Use One?

June 2026 · Star's Crystals

A pendulum is one of the oldest and most accessible divination tools in the world. Used for thousands of years across many cultures, a pendulum is simply a weighted object suspended from a chain or cord that responds to subtle energetic movements — and with practice, can be used to access your own intuition and inner wisdom.

"A pendulum doesn't give you answers from outside yourself — it helps you access the wisdom that's already within you." ✦

What is a Crystal Pendulum?

A crystal pendulum combines the divination power of pendulum work with the energetic properties of crystals. Our 7 Chakra Crystal Pendulum features layers of all seven chakra stones, making it a particularly powerful tool for chakra balancing work as well as yes/no readings and energy dowsing.

How Does a Pendulum Work?

The pendulum responds to your body's subtle energetic movements — known as ideomotor responses — which are influenced by your subconscious mind. When you ask a clear question, your body already holds the answer, and the pendulum amplifies this response into a visible movement you can interpret.

How to Use a Pendulum — Step by Step

STEP 1 — CLEANSE YOUR PENDULUM

Before using your pendulum for the first time, cleanse it by passing it through sage smoke, placing it in moonlight overnight, or holding it in your hands and setting a clear intention.

STEP 2 — ESTABLISH YOUR YES AND NO

Hold the chain between your thumb and forefinger, allowing the pendulum to hang freely. Ask it to show you "yes" — watch how it moves (clockwise, back and forth, side to side). Then ask it to show you "no." Every pendulum is different, so establish this at the start of every session.

STEP 3 — GROUND YOURSELF

Take three deep breaths. Clear your mind. Set the intention that you are open to honest, accurate guidance for your highest good.

STEP 4 — ASK YOUR QUESTIONS

Ask clear, specific yes/no questions. Hold your question clearly in your mind and allow the pendulum to respond. Avoid asking questions you are emotionally invested in, as strong emotions can influence the response.

STEP 5 — CLOSE YOUR SESSION

Thank your pendulum and your intuition. Cleanse the pendulum after each session to clear the energy of the questions asked.

What Are Runes — The Complete Elder Futhark Guide

June 2026 · Star's Crystals

Runes are one of the most ancient divination systems in the world, originating with the Germanic and Norse peoples of Northern Europe. The word "rune" itself means secret or mystery — and working with runes is a deeply meditative practice of seeking wisdom, insight and guidance from their ancient symbols.

"Runes do not predict a fixed future. They illuminate the energies at play and help you navigate your path with greater wisdom." ✦

What is the Elder Futhark?

The Elder Futhark is the oldest known runic alphabet, consisting of 24 runes. It was used by Germanic tribes from around the 2nd to 8th centuries CE and remains the most widely used system in modern rune reading. Each rune carries a name, a sound and a deep symbolic meaning.

The 24 Elder Futhark Runes and Their Meanings

ᚠ FEHU — Wealth, Abundance, Cattle

Fehu is the rune of wealth, prosperity and material abundance. It speaks to earned success, the flow of financial energy and the power of gratitude for what you already have. Drawing Fehu is a positive sign for matters of money, career and material goals.

ᚢ URUZ — Strength, Vitality, Wild Power

Uruz represents raw, primal strength and untamed energy. It is the rune of physical vitality, courage and the power of nature. Drawing Uruz speaks to a time of great energy, personal power and the ability to overcome challenges through sheer force of will.

ᚦ THURISAZ — Thor's Hammer, Protection, Challenge

Thurisaz is a rune of protection and reactive force. It can represent both a shield and a weapon — the power to defend against enemies and challenges. It can also signal a time of difficulty or a threshold that must be crossed before growth can occur.

ᚨ ANSUZ — Odin, Communication, Wisdom

Ansuz is the rune of Odin — the god of wisdom, communication and divine inspiration. It represents messages, signs, divine guidance and the power of words. Drawing Ansuz often signals an important message coming your way, or a call to listen more deeply to your intuition.

ᚱ RAIDHO — Journey, Travel, Right Action

Raidho is the rune of the journey — both literal travel and the journey of life itself. It represents movement, rhythm and right action. Drawing Raidho asks you to consider whether you are on the right path, and whether you are moving forward with purpose and integrity.

ᚲ KENAZ — Torch, Knowledge, Creativity

Kenaz is the rune of the torch — the light of knowledge, creativity and transformation. It represents clarity, skill, passion and the creative fire within. Drawing Kenaz signals a time of illumination, learning and creative inspiration.

ᚷ GEBO — Gift, Generosity, Partnership

Gebo is the rune of the gift — representing exchange, generosity and the sacred bond of partnership. It speaks to balance between giving and receiving, and to relationships built on mutual respect and love. Drawing Gebo is a beautiful sign for matters of love, friendship and collaboration.

ᚹ WUNJO — Joy, Harmony, Belonging

Wunjo is the rune of joy — pure, earned happiness and a sense of belonging. It represents harmony, success after struggle and the deep satisfaction of being exactly where you are meant to be. Drawing Wunjo is one of the most positive signs in a reading.

ᚺ HAGALAZ — Hail, Disruption, Transformation

Hagalaz is the rune of hail — sudden disruption, challenge and upheaval. But like a hailstorm, it passes, and the water it leaves behind nourishes growth. Drawing Hagalaz signals a period of disruption that, while difficult, ultimately serves your evolution.

ᚾ NAUTHIZ — Need, Constraint, Perseverance

Nauthiz is the rune of need and necessity. It speaks to hardship, constraint and the lessons that come through difficulty. But it also carries the energy of resilience — the fire that is kindled through friction. Drawing Nauthiz asks you to find strength in your struggle.

ᛁ ISA — Ice, Stillness, Pause

Isa is the rune of ice — stillness, stasis and a necessary pause. It often appears when movement is blocked or when things are frozen in place. Rather than resisting this energy, Isa asks you to be still, to go within and to wait for the thaw. This is a time for reflection, not action.

ᛃ JERA — Year, Harvest, Cycles

Jera is the rune of the year and the harvest — the reward that comes after patient, sustained effort. It speaks to cycles, seasons and the natural law that we reap what we sow. Drawing Jera is a beautiful sign that your efforts are about to bear fruit.

ᛇ EIHWAZ — Yew Tree, Death and Rebirth, Endurance

Eihwaz is the rune of the yew tree — one of the longest-lived trees on earth and sacred to both life and death. It speaks to transformation, endurance through great challenges and the wisdom that comes from facing the shadow. Eihwaz asks you to stand firm in the face of change.

ᛈ PERTHRO — Fate, Mystery, Hidden Knowledge

Perthro is the rune of mystery and the unknown — the dice cup, the hidden, the unfolding of fate. It speaks to secrets being revealed, synchronicity and the workings of destiny. Drawing Perthro invites you to trust the process even when you cannot see the full picture.

ᛉ ALGIZ — Elk, Protection, Divine Connection

Algiz is one of the most protective runes in the Elder Futhark. It represents the elk — alert, powerful and connected to the divine. Drawing Algiz signals that you are protected, and may also be a call to strengthen your spiritual practice and connection to higher guidance.

ᛊ SOWILO — Sun, Success, Vitality

Sowilo is the rune of the sun — clarity, success, life force and forward momentum. It is one of the most purely positive runes in the Elder Futhark, signalling a time of achievement, energy and illumination. Drawing Sowilo is a powerful sign that the light is on your side.

ᛏ TIWAZ — Tyr, Justice, Sacrifice

Tiwaz is the rune of the warrior god Tyr — representing justice, honour, courage and the willingness to sacrifice for the greater good. It speaks to standing up for what is right, legal matters resolved fairly and the strength to do what must be done even when it is difficult.

ᛒ BERKANO — Birch, Fertility, New Beginnings

Berkano is the rune of the birch tree — associated with birth, fertility, new beginnings and the nurturing of new life. It speaks to growth, renewal, family and the creative power of the feminine. Drawing Berkano signals a beautiful new beginning taking root.

ᛖ EHWAZ — Horse, Partnership, Progress

Ehwaz is the rune of the horse — representing partnership, trust, movement and progress. It speaks to working in harmony with others toward a shared goal, and to the kind of loyal, devoted partnership that carries you forward. Drawing Ehwaz is a positive sign for teamwork, travel and relationships.

ᛗ MANNAZ — Humanity, Self, Community

Mannaz is the rune of the human — representing the self, the mind and our place within community. It invites deep self-reflection, intellectual clarity and an awareness of how we relate to those around us. Drawing Mannaz asks you to look honestly at yourself and your role in the wider world.

ᛚ LAGUZ — Water, Flow, Intuition

Laguz is the rune of water — fluid, deep and intuitive. It represents the flow of emotion, the power of the unconscious mind and the call to trust your intuition over logic. Drawing Laguz asks you to go with the flow, to feel rather than think, and to trust what your gut is telling you.

ᛜ INGWAZ — Ing, Fertility, Inner Growth

Ingwaz is the rune of the god Ing — representing fertility, gestation and the completion of one cycle before a new one begins. It speaks to a period of inner growth and preparation, of seeds being planted that will bloom in their own time. Drawing Ingwaz signals a time of quietly powerful internal transformation.

ᛞ DAGAZ — Dawn, Breakthrough, Transformation

Dagaz is the rune of the dawn — the breakthrough moment when darkness gives way to light. It represents transformation, awakening and the kind of sudden clarity that changes everything. Drawing Dagaz is one of the most positive signs in a reading — a new day is beginning.

ᛟ OTHALA — Home, Ancestry, Inheritance

Othala is the rune of home, heritage and ancestral wisdom. It speaks to what has been passed down to you — both the gifts and the patterns — and to the importance of roots, belonging and sacred space. Drawing Othala invites you to honour your lineage and to tend carefully to what matters most.

Raw vs Tumbled Crystals — What's the Difference?

June 2026 · Star's Crystals

One of the most common questions from crystal beginners is whether to choose raw or tumbled crystals. Both are beautiful, both are powerful — but they have different energies, different uses and different strengths. Here's everything you need to know.

"Neither raw nor tumbled is better — they simply serve different purposes. Trust your intuition when choosing." ✦

What Are Raw Crystals?

Raw crystals are crystals in their natural, unpolished state — exactly as they were found in the earth. They have a rough, organic texture and often appear in irregular shapes. Raw crystals include things like amethyst clusters, carnelian freeforms, raw labradorite and rough quartz points.

What Are Tumbled Crystals?

Tumbled crystals have been polished in a tumbling machine until they become smooth, rounded and glossy. The polishing process doesn't change the crystal's properties — it simply changes its texture and appearance. Tumbled stones are the small, smooth crystals you'll often find in crystal shops.

The Energy Difference

RAW CRYSTALS

Raw crystals are generally considered to have a more intense, unfiltered energy. Because they haven't been processed, their energy is exactly as nature intended — wild, direct and powerful. Many experienced crystal workers prefer raw stones for altar work, energy grids and deep ritual practice for this reason.

TUMBLED CRYSTALS

Tumbled crystals have a softer, more gentle energy — easier to work with for beginners and wonderful for everyday use. Their smooth surface makes them comfortable to hold during meditation, carry in a pocket or wear as jewellery. They're also more durable and less likely to chip.

Which Should You Choose?

Do Raw Crystals Need Different Care?

Raw crystals can be more fragile than tumbled stones — some have delicate points or edges that can chip if knocked. Handle them with care, store them somewhere they won't be knocked around, and be particularly careful with water cleansing as the rough surface can absorb moisture more easily.

Best Crystals for Love and Relationships

June 2026 · Star's Crystals

Whether you're calling in a new relationship, healing from heartbreak, deepening an existing connection or simply learning to love yourself more fully — crystals can be beautiful allies in your journey. These are the most powerful stones for matters of the heart.

"The most important love relationship you will ever have is the one you have with yourself. Let these crystals support you there first." ✦

Rose Quartz — The Stone of Unconditional Love

Rose quartz is the quintessential love crystal — gentle, warm and deeply nurturing. Its soft pink energy opens the heart chakra, dissolves emotional wounds and invites both self-love and romantic love. Place it in your bedroom to invite loving energy into your space, carry it in your bra or pocket, or gift it to someone you love.

Rhodonite — Healing the Heart

Rhodonite is the crystal for healing after heartbreak. Its deep pink and black energy works to clear old emotional wounds, release resentment and restore the heart's capacity to love again. If you're recovering from a difficult relationship or trying to break unhealthy patterns, rhodonite is your companion.

Green Aventurine — Opening to Opportunity

Green aventurine is the stone of opportunity and luck — and this extends to love. It opens you to new romantic possibilities, helps you let go of past disappointments and attracts positive new connections into your life. Wear it when you're ready to open your heart to something new.

Moonstone — Intuition and Feminine Energy

Moonstone is deeply connected to feminine energy, intuition and the cycles of love. It enhances emotional intelligence, strengthens existing relationships and is particularly powerful for those seeking to conceive or deepen a long-term partnership. Its ethereal shimmer carries a truly magical energy.

Garnet — Passion and Commitment

Garnet is the stone of deep, committed love and passionate connection. Unlike rose quartz's gentle sweetness, garnet carries a fiery, intense energy — perfect for reigniting passion in a long-term relationship or for those calling in a deep, serious partnership rather than a casual connection.

Carnelian — Confidence and Attraction

Carnelian's warm, fiery energy boosts confidence, enhances your natural magnetism and helps you show up fully in relationships. It's particularly helpful if anxiety or low self-worth is getting in the way of connection — carnelian reminds you of your own desirability and power.

Best Crystals for Sleep — Rest Deeper, Dream Better

June 2026 · Star's Crystals

A restless night can affect everything — your mood, your focus, your energy and your ability to show up fully in your life. If you struggle to switch off, drift off or stay asleep, crystals can be wonderfully supportive allies. Here are the best stones for sleep and how to use them.

"Your bedroom is a sanctuary. The energy you fill it with matters. Choose wisely, sleep deeply." ✦

Amethyst — The Dream Stone

Amethyst is one of the most powerful crystals for sleep. Its calming purple energy quiets an overactive mind, eases anxiety and creates a peaceful, protected energy in your bedroom. It also enhances dream recall and promotes vivid, meaningful dreams — making it a favourite for those interested in dream work. Place a cluster on your bedside table or tuck a tumbled piece under your pillow.

Howlite — Stillness and Calm

Howlite is specifically associated with insomnia and racing thoughts. Its white, marbled energy promotes stillness, patience and a deep quietening of the mind — helping to calm the mental chatter that so often keeps us awake. Keep a piece of howlite under your pillow or hold it as you wind down for the night.

Lepidolite — The Anti-Anxiety Stone

Lepidolite contains natural lithium — giving it a uniquely stabilising, calming energy that is particularly helpful for anxiety-driven insomnia. If your sleeplessness is driven by worry or stress, lepidolite is the crystal for you. Place it on your bedside table or hold it as you take slow, deep breaths before sleep.

Moonstone — Aligning with Natural Rhythms

Moonstone is deeply connected to the cycles of the moon and the natural rhythms of the body. Working with moonstone can help to regulate disrupted sleep patterns, ease restlessness and promote a deeper connection to your body's natural sleep-wake cycle. It's particularly powerful during a full moon when sleep can feel elusive.

Black Tourmaline — Protection While You Sleep

If you find yourself waking in the night feeling anxious or unsettled, black tourmaline placed near your bed creates a powerful protective barrier — shielding your energy while you sleep and promoting a sense of safety and security that allows for deeper rest.

Selenite — Cleansing the Sleep Space

Selenite doesn't directly promote sleep, but placing it in your bedroom helps to keep the energy of the space clear and peaceful — removing any accumulated negativity or heaviness that might disrupt your rest. A selenite wand on the windowsill is a simple and beautiful addition to any bedroom.

Crystals That Don't Go Together — and Why It Matters

June 2026 · Star's Crystals

Crystals each carry their own unique vibration and energy. While most crystals work beautifully together, some combinations can create conflicting or overwhelming energies — particularly for sensitive people or those new to working with crystals. Here's the most comprehensive guide to crystal combinations — what to avoid, what works beautifully, and which crystals to pair for each chakra.

"Your intuition is your best guide. If a combination feels off, trust that feeling." ✦

Combinations to Be Mindful Of

CLEAR QUARTZ WITH VERY HIGH ENERGY STONES

Clear quartz amplifies the energy of every crystal around it — which is usually wonderful, but can be overwhelming when paired with very high-energy stones like moldavite, malachite or labradorite. If you find yourself feeling overstimulated or ungrounded, try using quartz alone or with gentler stones.

CARNELIAN AND AMETHYST

Carnelian is an energising, activating stone — associated with fire, motivation and action. Amethyst is deeply calming and spiritual. Their energies work in opposite directions, which can create a feeling of imbalance for some people. That said, many people work with both perfectly happily — this is one to experiment with personally.

TIGER'S EYE AND LABRADORITE

Both work with personal power and psychic ability, but in quite different ways. Tiger's Eye is grounding and practical; labradorite is mystical and expansive. Together they can sometimes feel energetically contradictory — try them separately and see which resonates more for your current needs.

MALACHITE AND TIGER'S EYE

Malachite is a stone of intense transformation — it amplifies everything, positive and negative, and can be quite overwhelming. Tiger's Eye is also a stone of power and action. Together these two can create an overstimulating, restless energy that makes it hard to settle. Use one at a time rather than combining them, especially if you're going through a period of change already.

LAPIS LAZULI AND OBSIDIAN

Lapis lazuli opens the third eye and expands consciousness and psychic awareness. Obsidian dives deep into shadow and the unconscious. Combined, these two can create an intense, sometimes unsettling depth of inner exploration that can be too much — particularly for beginners or anyone in a vulnerable emotional state. Use them in separate sessions rather than together.

CITRINE AND AMETHYST

Citrine carries the energy of the sun — active, energising and outwardly focused. Amethyst carries lunar, calming and inward energy. They literally represent opposing forces, and wearing both at once can leave you feeling pulled in two directions at once — neither fully energised nor fully relaxed. Great crystals individually, but best used separately depending on your mood and intention.

ROSE QUARTZ AND BLACK TOURMALINE WORN TOGETHER CONSTANTLY

These two aren't necessarily incompatible, but there's an energetic tension worth knowing about. Rose quartz opens the heart and makes you energetically receptive and soft. Black tourmaline creates a shield and closes off incoming energy. Wearing both all day can create a confusing push-pull — your heart opening while your energy simultaneously closes. Better to choose based on what you need that day.

MOONSTONE AND LABRADORITE — FOR BEGINNERS

Both moonstone and labradorite are deeply psychic, mystical and connected to the unseen realms. For experienced practitioners this can be a beautiful pairing for deep spiritual work. But for beginners, combining both can create a feeling of being unmoored from reality — too much psychic energy without the grounding to support it. If you want to use both, pair with a grounding stone like black tourmaline or haematite.

SELENITE AND BLACK TOURMALINE

Selenite vibrates at an extremely high frequency — it's a cleanser and a connector to higher realms. Black tourmaline is dense, earthy and deeply grounding. Their energies are so opposite that some sensitive people find the combination creates a jarring, discordant feeling. Many people combine them perfectly well, but if something feels off when using both, try using them at different times — tourmaline during the day for protection, selenite in the evening for clearing.

TOO MANY HIGH-VIBRATION STONES AT ONCE

Combining multiple high-vibration stones — such as moldavite, phenacite, azurite and selenite all at once — can be extremely overwhelming, particularly for beginners. Start with one or two stones and build gradually as your sensitivity develops. More is not always more in crystal work.

Crystal Combinations That Work Beautifully

For experienced practitioners, two deeply intuitive, mystical stones that enhance each other's magic beautifully — perfect for dream work, divination and deepening your spiritual practice. Add a grounding stone if you're sensitive.

AMETHYST AND LABRADORITE 🔮

A powerful pairing for intuition and spiritual protection. Amethyst calms the mind and opens spiritual awareness while labradorite protects the aura and strengthens psychic ability. Two deeply feminine, heart-centred stones that work in beautiful harmony. Rose quartz opens the heart to love while moonstone connects you to your intuition, cycles and emotional wisdom. Together they create a deeply nurturing, emotionally intelligent energy — wonderful for self-love work and calling in meaningful relationships.

BLACK TOURMALINE AND SMOKY QUARTZ 🖤

The ultimate grounding and protection combination. Black tourmaline shields and deflects negative energy while smoky quartz transmutes it into something neutral. Together they create a powerfully protective and deeply grounding energy field — brilliant for anyone who feels anxious, overwhelmed or frequently drained by others.

CITRINE AND PYRITE ✨

The most powerful abundance pairing in the crystal kingdom. Citrine carries the energy of the sun and financial flow, while pyrite resonates with the frequency of gold and material success. Place both together in your workspace, cash box or wealth corner for maximum manifestation power.

MALACHITE AND CHRYSOCOLLA 💚

Malachite brings transformation and amplification while chrysocolla brings calm communication and emotional healing. Together they create a beautifully balanced energy — the boldness of transformation softened by the gentleness of healing. A good pairing for those going through major life changes.

LAPIS LAZULI AND SODALITE 💙

Two deep blue throat and third eye stones that work in perfect harmony. Lapis lazuli activates wisdom and truth while sodalite enhances logic and clear communication. Together they are brilliant for anyone who needs to speak their truth clearly, study effectively or communicate with authority and confidence.

SELENITE AND CLEAR QUARTZ ✦

A beautifully high-vibrational pairing for spiritual work, meditation and energy clearing. Selenite cleanses and connects to higher realms while clear quartz amplifies the cleansing energy. Place both on your altar or use them together during meditation for a deeply clarifying, uplifting experience.

Crystal Combinations by Chakra

Pairing crystals that work with the same chakra is one of the most effective ways to support and balance your energy centres.

ROOT CHAKRA — Grounding and Security

Best combinations: Black tourmaline + red jasper, smoky quartz + haematite, obsidian + garnet. These pairings anchor your energy, build a sense of safety and connect you deeply to the earth.

SACRAL CHAKRA — Creativity and Passion

Best combinations: Carnelian + orange calcite, sunstone + tiger's eye. These warm, fiery combinations ignite creativity, passion and the flow of life force energy.

SOLAR PLEXUS CHAKRA — Confidence and Power

Best combinations: Citrine + tiger's eye, yellow jasper + pyrite. These golden combinations boost confidence, personal power and the courage to take action toward your goals.

HEART CHAKRA — Love and Compassion

Best combinations: Rose quartz + green aventurine, rhodonite + malachite, emerald + jade. These green and pink pairings open the heart, attract love and support emotional healing.

THROAT CHAKRA — Communication and Truth

Best combinations: Lapis lazuli + sodalite, aquamarine + blue lace agate. These calming blue combinations help you speak your truth clearly and listen with genuine openness.

THIRD EYE CHAKRA — Intuition and Insight

Best combinations: Amethyst + labradorite, lapis lazuli + moonstone, fluorite + celestite. These deep, mystical combinations open psychic awareness and strengthen your connection to inner knowing.

CROWN CHAKRA — Spiritual Connection

Best combinations: Clear quartz + selenite, amethyst + moonstone, lepidolite + white howlite. These high-vibrational combinations connect you to higher consciousness, spiritual guidance and a sense of divine peace.

The Golden Rule

No guide — including this one — overrides your own experience. Crystal work is deeply personal and what creates conflict for one person may work beautifully for another. The combinations listed above are general guidelines based on the energetic properties of each stone, but your own sensitivity, intention and intuition will always be your most reliable guide. Try combinations, pay attention to how you feel, and trust what your body and energy tell you. ✦

How to Set Intentions — A Simple Ritual Guide

June 2026 · Star's Crystals

Intention setting is one of the most powerful practices you can bring into your daily life. At its heart, it's simple — you decide what you want, you state it clearly and you align your energy with it. But done with care and ritual, it becomes something far more powerful than a simple wish or goal. Here's how to do it properly.

"An intention is not a wish. It is a declaration — a decision made from the soul about what you are ready to call into your life." ✦

What is an Intention?

An intention is a clear, conscious statement of what you want to create, call in or embody. Unlike a goal — which focuses on a future outcome — an intention focuses on the energy, the feeling and the being that you want to cultivate right now. For example, rather than "I want to earn more money," an intention might be "I am open to abundance flowing freely into my life."

When to Set Intentions

You can set intentions at any time, but certain moments are energetically particularly powerful:

How to Set an Intention — Step by Step

STEP 1 — CREATE SACRED SPACE

Light a candle, burn some incense or sage, and take a few moments to arrive. Turn off your phone. Sit somewhere quiet and comfortable. This signals to your mind and energy that something intentional is about to happen.

STEP 2 — GROUND YOURSELF

Take three slow, deep breaths. Feel your feet on the floor. Release the energy of the day. Come fully into the present moment — intention setting from a scattered or anxious state is far less powerful than from a grounded, centred one.

STEP 3 — CHOOSE YOUR CRYSTAL

Select a crystal that aligns with your intention. Citrine for abundance, rose quartz for love, amethyst for clarity and spiritual growth, carnelian for confidence and action, clear quartz for amplifying any intention. Hold it in both hands as you work.

STEP 4 — WRITE YOUR INTENTION

Write your intention in your journal or on a piece of paper. Use present tense — "I am," "I have," "I welcome" — rather than future tense. Be specific about the feeling you want to cultivate, not just the outcome. Read it aloud when you're done.

STEP 5 — FEEL IT

This is the most important step. Close your eyes, hold your crystal and truly feel the emotion of your intention already being real. Gratitude, joy, relief, love — whatever emotion the fulfilment of your intention would bring. Energy follows emotion, and this is where the real magic happens.

STEP 6 — RELEASE IT

Blow out your candle. Thank the universe, your guides or whatever you believe in. Then let go — trust that the seed has been planted and that the universe is working on your behalf. Take one aligned action toward your intention before the day is out.

Why You Should Ground and Cleanse — and How to Do It

June 2026 · Star's Crystals

Grounding and cleansing are two of the most fundamental practices in spiritual and energy work — and yet they're often skipped, particularly by beginners. If you've ever felt drained, scattered, anxious or energetically "off" without knowing why, this post is for you.

"You cannot pour from an empty cup. Grounding and cleansing keep your cup full." ✦

What is Grounding?

Grounding is the practice of connecting your energy back to the earth — bringing yourself fully into your body and into the present moment. When we're ungrounded, we can feel scattered, anxious, disconnected, spacey or overwhelmed. Grounding restores a sense of stability, safety and presence.

Why Grounding Matters

We live in an increasingly ungrounded world — constant screens, overstimulation, busy minds and disconnection from nature all pull us out of our bodies and out of the present moment. Regular grounding practice is one of the most powerful things you can do for your mental health, your energy levels and your spiritual work. You cannot do effective energy work from an ungrounded state.

How to Ground Yourself

CONNECT WITH THE EARTH

The simplest and most powerful grounding practice is to put your bare feet on the earth — grass, soil or sand. Even five minutes of this can dramatically shift your energy. This practice is known as earthing and has measurable physiological benefits as well as energetic ones.

USE GROUNDING CRYSTALS

Black tourmaline, smoky quartz, obsidian, haematite and red jasper are all powerful grounding stones. Hold one in your non-dominant hand, take three deep breaths and feel its weight anchoring you back into your body and into the present moment.

THE TREE VISUALISATION

Sit or stand with your feet flat on the floor. Close your eyes and visualise roots growing down from the soles of your feet — deep into the earth, wrapping around rocks, reaching all the way to the earth's core. Feel yourself anchored, stable and held. Breathe slowly as you hold this image.

PHYSICAL GROUNDING

Eating a nourishing meal, going for a walk, doing gentle exercise, taking a bath or shower — all of these bring you back into your body and help ground scattered energy quickly.

What is Cleansing?

Energy cleansing is the practice of clearing stagnant, heavy or negative energy from your own energy field (aura) and from your physical space. We pick up energy from everywhere — other people, stressful environments, difficult conversations, our own thoughts and emotions — and it accumulates over time. Regular cleansing keeps your energy field clear and your space feeling light and fresh.

How to Cleanse Your Energy

SMOKE CLEANSING

Pass sage, Palo Santo or incense smoke around your body from feet to head, setting the intention that all stagnant or negative energy is being cleared and released. You can do the same for your home — move through each room letting the smoke reach the corners.

SALT BATH OR SHOWER

Add Himalayan salt to a warm bath and soak for at least 20 minutes, visualising the water drawing out all negativity and heaviness. If you don't have a bath, mix salt with a little water and use it as a body scrub in the shower.

SOUND CLEANSING

Clapping your hands around your body, using a singing bowl, or playing high-vibrational music can all shift and clear stagnant energy from your field effectively.

VISUALISATION

Close your eyes and visualise a shower of golden or white light pouring down through the top of your head, washing through every part of your body and energy field, dissolving and releasing anything that isn't yours or isn't serving you, draining out through your feet into the earth where it is composted and transformed.

CLEANSING TOOLS

Incense vs Palo Santo vs Sage — What's the Difference?

June 2026 · Star's Crystals

Smoke has been used for spiritual cleansing and ritual across virtually every culture in the world for thousands of years. Walk into any spiritual shop and you'll find incense sticks, bundles of white sage and sticks of Palo Santo — but what's the difference, and which should you choose? Here's your complete guide.

"All three work. The right one is simply the one that resonates most deeply with you." ✦

White Sage

White sage — Salvia apiana — is a sacred plant used for thousands of years in the spiritual traditions of Native American peoples, particularly for the practice of smudging. It is one of the most powerful energy cleansers available — its smoke is antimicrobial, purifying and highly effective at clearing stagnant and negative energy from a space or person.

BEST FOR:

HOW TO USE:

Light the end of your sage bundle until it catches flame, then blow it out and allow it to smoulder. Move through your space letting the smoke reach corners, doorways and windows. Set a clear intention as you work — visualise the smoke carrying away all that no longer serves the space.

THINGS TO KNOW:

White sage has a strong, distinctive scent that some find quite intense. It produces a lot of smoke — always open windows when using it. It's important to source white sage ethically, as overharvesting has become a concern. Look for sustainably grown or cultivated sage rather than wild-harvested.

Palo Santo

Palo Santo — which means "holy wood" in Spanish — is a sacred wood from South America, traditionally used by Shamanic healers for spiritual purification and healing. Unlike sage, which clears everything, Palo Santo is said to clear negative energy while preserving and inviting positive energy — making it a wonderfully balancing tool.

BEST FOR:

HOW TO USE:

Hold the stick at a 45-degree angle and light the tip. Allow it to burn for 30 seconds, then blow out the flame and let it smoulder. Move around your space as with sage, or simply rest it in a fireproof dish and allow the smoke to fill the room naturally. Palo Santo goes out easily — relight as needed.

THINGS TO KNOW:

Palo Santo has a beautiful, warm, slightly sweet scent — often described as a blend of pine, mint and lemon. It produces less smoke than sage and is generally considered more accessible for beginners. As with sage, ethical sourcing matters — look for suppliers who use fallen wood rather than harvested trees.

Incense

Incense is the most widely available and varied of the three options — available in countless scents, forms and traditions from all over the world. Unlike sage and Palo Santo which are primarily cleansing tools, incense serves a huge range of purposes depending on the scent and your intention.

Black Tourmaline vs Obsidian — Which is Better for Protection?

June 2026 · Star's Crystals

If you're building a protection crystal collection, black tourmaline and obsidian are probably the first two stones you'll come across. Both are dark, powerful and deeply associated with protection — but they work in very different ways. Knowing the difference will help you choose the right stone for exactly what you need.

"Protection isn't one size fits all. The right stone depends on what you're protecting yourself from." ✦

Black Tourmaline — The Shield

Black tourmaline is widely considered the ultimate protection crystal. It works by creating a powerful energetic shield around you — acting like an invisible force field that deflects negative energy, EMF radiation and psychic attack before it can reach you. It doesn't absorb negative energy, it repels it.

This makes black tourmaline particularly powerful for:

Black tourmaline is also one of the most grounding crystals available. If you feel unmoored, anxious or disconnected from your body, its earthy energy pulls you back down to earth quickly and effectively.

Obsidian — The Mirror

Obsidian is volcanic glass — formed when lava meets water and cools rapidly. Its energy is raw, intense and uncompromising. Where black tourmaline shields you from external negativity, obsidian works differently — it acts like a mirror, reflecting truth back to you and drawing hidden negativity to the surface so it can be cleared.

This makes obsidian particularly powerful for:

A word of caution — obsidian is intense. It doesn't ease you gently into shadow work, it throws open the curtains. Beginners sometimes find its energy overwhelming, particularly black obsidian. If you're new to crystals or going through a difficult period emotionally, start with black tourmaline first.

The Key Differences

ENERGY TYPE

Black tourmaline is protective and grounding — it keeps negative energy out. Obsidian is transformative and revealing — it draws negativity out so it can be healed and released. One is a shield, the other is a scalpel.

INTENSITY

Black tourmaline is gentle enough for everyday wear and use — brilliant for children's rooms, sensitive people and daily protection. Obsidian is much more intense and is best used intentionally during specific healing or shadow work rather than worn constantly.

BEST FOR BEGINNERS

Black tourmaline wins here every time. It's accessible, gentle and immediately effective. Obsidian's intensity can be too much for those just starting their crystal journey.

CLEANSING

Both stones absorb a significant amount of energy and need regular cleansing. Black tourmaline in particular works hard and needs frequent clearing — use sage smoke, moonlight or a selenite slab. Obsidian can be cleansed the same way.

Can You Use Both Together?

Yes — and many experienced crystal workers do. Black tourmaline on the outside as your daily shield, obsidian used intentionally for deeper healing work. They complement each other beautifully as long as you're mindful of obsidian's intensity.

What is a Familiar — and Could Your Pet Be One?

June 2026 · Star's Crystals

Mrs Snuggles — resident altar cat and suspected familiar ✦

This is Mrs Snuggles. She has a habit of sitting directly on my altar, knocking over my crystals and staring at me with those enormous eyes while I work. For a long time I thought she was just being a cat. Now I'm not so sure.

If you have a pet who seems inexplicably drawn to your spiritual practice — who sits with you during rituals, gravitates toward your crystals or seems to sense energy shifts before you do — you might be wondering the same thing. Could they be your familiar?

"A familiar doesn't choose you randomly. The bond between a witch and their familiar is one of the oldest and most sacred in spiritual tradition." ✦

What is a Familiar?

The concept of the familiar has existed across many cultures for thousands of years. In European folk magic and witchcraft tradition, a familiar is a spiritual companion — an animal whose soul is deeply connected to yours, who assists you in your magical and spiritual work and acts as a bridge between the physical and spiritual worlds.

Historically familiars were often depicted as cats, ravens, toads or hares — animals associated with liminality, magic and the unseen. In modern witchcraft the concept has evolved — a familiar is simply any animal companion with whom you share a deep, inexplicable spiritual bond. They don't have to be exotic or unusual. They can be your cat, your dog, your rabbit. The bond is what matters, not the species.

The Difference Between a Pet and a Familiar

All familiars are beloved pets, but not all pets are familiars. The difference lies in the nature of the connection. A familiar feels less like an animal you own and more like a soul who chose to be with you. There is a quality of recognition to the relationship — as if you have known each other before, in other lifetimes or other forms.

Many people describe their familiar as a presence rather than just a pet — an animal who seems to understand them on a level that goes beyond normal animal intelligence, who appears exactly when needed, who responds to energy and emotion in ways that feel almost impossibly perceptive.

Signs Your Pet Might Be Your Familiar

THEY ARE DRAWN TO YOUR SPIRITUAL PRACTICE

Does your pet gravitate toward your altar, your crystals or your ritual space? Do they sit with you during meditation or appear when you're doing energy work? Mrs Snuggles has an uncanny ability to appear the moment I light a candle or pick up a crystal — coincidence, or something more? A familiar is instinctively drawn to the energy of spiritual practice.

THEY SEEM TO SENSE ENERGY

Familiars are often highly sensitive to energetic shifts — they may react to spaces that feel heavy or uncomfortable, become unsettled before something significant happens or calm down dramatically during cleansing rituals. Animals are naturally more attuned to subtle energy than humans, but a familiar takes this to another level.

THE CONNECTION FELT IMMEDIATE AND UNEXPLAINED

Many people describe meeting their familiar as a feeling of instant recognition — a sense of "there you are" rather than "hello." If you felt an inexplicable pull toward a specific animal, or if they chose you in a way that felt fated, this is worth paying attention to.

THEY APPEAR DURING SIGNIFICANT MOMENTS

Familiars have a way of showing up exactly when you need them — during emotional lows, during moments of spiritual significance, during periods of change. This isn't random. A familiar is attuned to your energy and responds to it.

YOU FEEL PROTECTED IN THEIR PRESENCE

There is a quality of safety that comes with a familiar — a sense that their presence creates a protective field around your space and practice. Many witches feel that their familiar actively wards off negative energy simply by being present.

How to Work With Your Familiar

ACKNOWLEDGE THE BOND

The first step is simply recognising and honouring the connection. Speak to your familiar as the spiritual companion they are. Thank them for their presence in your practice. Intention matters — the more consciously you cultivate the relationship, the deeper it becomes.

INVITE THEM INTO YOUR PRACTICE

If your familiar gravitates toward your altar or ritual space, welcome them. Their presence raises the energetic vibration of your practice and their instinctive sensitivity to energy can act as a guide — watch how they respond to different crystals, spaces or intentions.

PLACE CRYSTALS IN THEIR SPACE

Certain crystals are associated with animal energy and the familiar bond — clear quartz to amplify your connection, black tourmaline to strengthen their protective role, and malachite for transformation and spiritual guardianship. Place these near where they sleep or spend time.

TRUST THEIR INSTINCTS

If your familiar seems uncomfortable in a space, pay attention. If they react to a person, a place or an energy in a way that feels significant, don't dismiss it. Familiars often perceive what we cannot.

A Note on Mrs Snuggles

Whether she is truly my familiar or simply a very nosy cat with excellent taste in altar placement, Mrs Snuggles brings something to my practice that I can't quite explain. She shows up. She sits in the energy. She stares at things I cannot see with those enormous green eyes, and somehow the whole space feels more alive for it.

Maybe that's magic. Maybe that's just cats. Honestly, I think it might be both. ✦

Crystals for Grief and Loss — Stones to Help You Heal

June 2026 · Star's Crystals

Grief is one of the most universal and most isolating human experiences. Whether you are grieving the loss of a person, a relationship, a dream or a chapter of your life — the weight of it can feel impossible to carry. Crystals won't take the pain away. Nothing can do that, and nothing should. But the right stones can help you hold your grief with more gentleness, move through it with more grace and feel less alone in the darkness.

"Grief is not something to be fixed. It is something to be held. Let these crystals help you hold it." ✦

Apache Tears — The Grief Stone

Apache tears are a form of black obsidian associated specifically with grief and mourning. According to Apache legend, these stones are the tears of women who wept for their warriors — which is why they are said to carry the energy of compassionate grief. They gently absorb sorrow and offer comfort without forcing you to move through your grief faster than you're ready to. Hold one in your hand and simply allow yourself to feel.

Rose Quartz — Unconditional Love and Comfort

Rose quartz is the stone of love in all its forms — and in grief, it offers the gentlest, most nurturing comfort. It wraps you in warmth, reminds you that love never truly ends and helps keep your heart open even when pain makes you want to close it. Place rose quartz on your heart chakra during meditation or keep it beside you while you sleep.

Smoky Quartz — Transmuting Pain

Smoky quartz is one of the most powerful stones for transmuting negative energy — taking heavy, dark emotions and slowly transforming them into something lighter. It doesn't suppress grief, it helps process it. Hold smoky quartz when the weight feels too much and visualise it absorbing the heaviness from your body, drawing it down into the earth to be composted and released.

Amethyst — Peace and Spiritual Connection

Amethyst offers deep peace and a connection to something greater than ourselves. In grief — especially the grief of losing someone — amethyst can help strengthen a sense of spiritual connection, ease the terror of the unknown and bring a quality of peaceful acceptance. Its calming energy also supports sleep, which grief so often disrupts.

Rhodonite — Healing the Heart

Rhodonite is the stone of emotional healing. Its deep rose and black energy works directly with the heart — clearing old wounds, releasing resentment and gently rebuilding the capacity to feel joy again after loss. It doesn't rush the process. It simply holds space for healing to happen in its own time.

Aquamarine — Courage to Move Forward

Aquamarine offers the courage to keep going when grief makes everything feel impossible. Its gentle blue energy soothes raw emotion, clears the mind and brings a sense of hope — not forced positivity, but a quiet, oceanic reassurance that the tide will turn. It is particularly helpful for those grieving sudden or traumatic loss.

What is the Law of Attraction — and How Do You Actually Use It?

June 2026 · Star's Crystals

The law of attraction is one of the most talked about and most misunderstood concepts in the spiritual world. You've probably heard the basic idea — think positive thoughts and good things will come to you. But if it were that simple, everyone who ever read The Secret would be living their dream life. So what is it really, and how do you use it in a way that actually works?

"The law of attraction isn't about pretending everything is fine. It's about aligning your energy with what you want to call in." ✦

What is the Law of Attraction?

At its core, the law of attraction is the idea that like energy attracts like energy. What you focus on, feel deeply and believe to be true — you draw more of into your experience. This isn't about toxic positivity or pretending negative things don't exist. It's about consciously directing your energy, attention and belief toward what you want rather than what you fear.

The law of attraction works on three levels — thought, emotion and action. All three need to be aligned for it to work effectively. Thinking positive thoughts while feeling deep fear or taking no aligned action won't get you very far. The magic happens when all three are working together.

Why Positive Thinking Alone Doesn't Work

The biggest misconception about the law of attraction is that it's just about thinking happy thoughts. It isn't. Your subconscious beliefs — many of which you're not even aware of — carry far more energetic weight than your conscious thoughts. If you're trying to manifest abundance while carrying a deep subconscious belief that you don't deserve it or that money is bad, your subconscious will win every time.

This is why inner work — journaling, shadow work, therapy, meditation — is such an important companion to any manifestation practice. You have to clear the blocks before the flow can come through.

How to Use the Law of Attraction — Step by Step

1. GET CLEAR ON WHAT YOU WANT

Vague intentions get vague results. The universe responds to specificity. Don't just wish for "more money" — get clear on how much, by when and what you'll do with it. Don't just want "a relationship" — get clear on how it feels, what kind of person you're calling in, how your life looks with them in it.

2. FEEL IT AS IF IT'S ALREADY REAL

This is the most important and most overlooked step. The law of attraction responds to emotion, not just thought. You need to feel the feeling of your desire already being fulfilled — the gratitude, the relief, the joy. Not as a performance, but as a genuine emotional state you cultivate daily. This is why visualisation, scripting and gratitude practices are so powerful.

3. CLEAR YOUR BLOCKS

What beliefs are in the way? What stories are you telling yourself about why you can't have what you want? These need to be identified and worked through — through journaling, shadow work or talking to someone. A crystal like obsidian or malachite can support this process powerfully.

4. TAKE ALIGNED ACTION

The law of attraction is not a passive practice. You cannot manifest a business without working on it, or a relationship without putting yourself out there. Action signals to the universe that you're serious. Take one step toward your desire every day, no matter how small.

5. RELEASE AND TRUST

Paradoxically, obsessing over your desire and constantly checking for results creates a energy of lack that repels what you want. Set your intention, do the work, then release it. Trust that what is meant for you is already on its way.

Crystals for Manifestation

Crystals make powerful allies in law of attraction work. Clear quartz amplifies your intentions, citrine attracts abundance and positivity, green aventurine opens you to opportunity and pyrite aligns you with the frequency of wealth and success. Hold your chosen crystal as you visualise, place it on your altar or carry it with you as a physical anchor for your intention.

BEGINNER WITCH

Beginner Witch Starter Kit — What You Actually Need

June 2026 · Star's Crystals

Starting a spiritual or witchcraft practice can feel completely overwhelming. One scroll through witchy social media and suddenly it seems like you need an altar the size of a dining table, seventeen specific crystals, a collection of hand-bound grimoires and a black cat. You don't. You need far less than you think — and the most important things cost nothing at all.

"The most powerful tool in any practice is intention. Everything else is just a beautiful aid." ✦

What You Actually Need

A JOURNAL

This is genuinely the most important tool you can have. A journal for recording your thoughts, intentions, dreams, moon cycles, tarot readings, crystal work and everything in between. Your journal is your personal grimoire — it doesn't need to be fancy. Any notebook will do. The practice of writing is itself deeply magical.

ONE OR TWO CRYSTALS

You do not need a massive crystal collection to start. Begin with one or two stones that resonate with you. Clear quartz is the perfect starter crystal — it amplifies energy and intention and works with absolutely everything. Amethyst is another brilliant choice for beginners — calming, protective and deeply spiritual. Hold them, meditate with them, sleep with them under your pillow. Build your relationship with them before adding more.

A CANDLE

Candles are one of the oldest ritual tools in the world and one of the most accessible. The simple act of lighting a candle with intention — stating what you're calling in or releasing as you light it — is a complete ritual in itself. Start with white, which works for any intention.

SOMETHING TO BURN — SAGE, PALO SANTO OR INCENSE

A smoke cleansing tool is genuinely useful from day one. It clears the energy of your space, marks the beginning and end of ritual and helps you shift your mindset from everyday mode into sacred space. Palo Santo is a wonderful starting point — its warm, sweet scent is less intense than sage and it's incredibly versatile.

YOUR INTUITION

This costs nothing and is already inside you. The most important skill in any spiritual practice is learning to trust your own inner knowing. Which crystals call to you? Which practices feel right? What does your gut tell you? This is your compass. No book, teacher or online trend overrides it.

What You Don't Need Yet

Building Your Practice

Start small and consistent rather than big and occasional. Five minutes of meditation with a crystal every morning will serve you far better than an elaborate monthly ritual you never quite get around to. The magic is in the everyday. In the lighting of the candle, the holding of the stone, the writing in the journal. Build these small habits and your practice will grow naturally from there.

Full Moon Ritual July 2026 — How to Work With the Buck Moon

July 2026 · Star's Crystals

July's full moon is known as the Buck Moon — named for the time of year when male deer begin to grow their new antlers, pushing through with bold new growth after a period of shedding. It rises on 10th July 2026 in Capricorn, creating a powerful tension between the nurturing, intuitive energy of Cancer season and the disciplined, ambitious energy of Capricorn. This is a full moon for releasing what is blocking your goals and stepping boldly into your next chapter.

"The Buck Moon asks — what are you ready to grow into? What needs to be shed for that growth to happen?" ✦

The Energy of the Buck Moon

Full moons are always a time of culmination, release and heightened emotion — things come to the surface, situations reach their peak and what has been hidden becomes visible. With the Buck Moon in Capricorn, the themes are particularly focused on ambition, structure, long-term goals and the courage to commit to your path even when it's hard. This is not a gentle, dreamy full moon. It is a purposeful one.

What to Release Under the Buck Moon

Buck Moon Ritual — Step by Step

WHAT YOU NEED

A candle (white or gold), your journal, a pen, a crystal (clear quartz, black tourmaline or garnet work beautifully for this moon), and if possible a window or outdoor space where you can see or sense the moonlight.

STEP 1 — CLEANSE YOUR SPACE

Burn sage, Palo Santo or incense to clear the energy of your space. Open a window if possible to allow the full moon energy in.

STEP 2 — SET YOUR INTENTION

Light your candle. Hold your crystal and take three deep breaths. Ask yourself — what am I ready to release? What bold growth am I stepping into? Sit with these questions rather than rushing to answer them.

STEP 3 — WRITE YOUR RELEASE LIST

In your journal, write everything you are releasing under this full moon. Be specific. "I release the belief that I am not capable enough." "I release the habit of putting everyone else first." Write until the page feels complete.

STEP 4 — WRITE YOUR INTENTIONS

On a fresh page, write what you are stepping into. Use present tense. "I am building something that matters." "I am taking bold action toward my goals." "I trust myself completely."

STEP 5 — CHARGE YOUR CRYSTALS

Place your crystals on a windowsill or outside under the full moon overnight to cleanse and recharge them with the powerful Buck Moon energy.

STEP 6 — CLOSE YOUR RITUAL

Blow out your candle with gratitude. Thank the moon, thank yourself. Rest — full moons can be energetically intense and rest is part of the practice.

SEASONAL

Summer Solstice Aftermath — How to Use the Energy Now

June 2026 · Star's Crystals

The Summer Solstice — Litha — has passed, but its energy doesn't simply switch off when the sun sets on the longest day. The solstice opens an energetic portal that remains potent for several days and even weeks afterward. If you missed the solstice itself, or if you simply want to continue working with this powerful solar energy, here's how to harness what remains.

"The solstice is a peak, not a deadline. Its energy lingers in the long golden evenings and the abundance of midsummer. There is still time." ✦

What is the Summer Solstice Energy?

Litha is the celebration of the sun at its peak — maximum light, maximum vitality, the fullest expression of solar energy. It is associated with abundance, growth, confidence, passion, creativity and the full flowering of what was planted at the spring equinox. If you set intentions in March or April, the solstice season is when those seeds should be showing above the soil.

How to Work With the Lingering Solstice Energy

TAKE STOCK OF YOUR GROWTH

The solstice is a natural checkpoint. What has grown in your life since spring? What intentions have manifested, even partially? Take time to journal on this — acknowledging growth is one of the most powerful things you can do for your manifestation practice. What you appreciate, expands.

AMPLIFY WHAT IS WORKING

Rather than focusing on what hasn't manifested yet, put your energy into amplifying what is already showing growth. Solar energy is amplifying energy — use it consciously to pour more fuel into the fires that are already burning.

WORK WITH SOLAR CRYSTALS

Citrine, carnelian, sunstone, golden tiger's eye and amber all carry solar energy and are particularly powerful to work with in the weeks around the solstice. Place them in a sunny windowsill to charge, hold them during meditation or carry them to amplify your confidence and vitality.

LIGHT A FIRE — LITERALLY OR SYMBOLICALLY

Fire is the element of the summer solstice. If you can light a bonfire, a fire pit or even a simple candle with intention, do so. Write what you want to amplify on a piece of paper and burn it safely, releasing your intention to the fire and the sun.

SPEND TIME IN THE SUN

This sounds almost too simple — but consciously spending time in sunlight with gratitude and presence is one of the most direct ways to absorb solar energy. Sit outside, close your eyes, turn your face to the sun and breathe. Feel the warmth as energy, not just heat. Let it fill you up.

SET YOUR GOALS FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR

The solstice is the midpoint of the year — after this, we begin the slow turn back toward darkness. This makes it a perfect time to review the year so far and set clear intentions for the second half. What do you want to have created, experienced or become by the winter solstice?

CRYSTAL JEWELLERY

Crystal Jewellery — Which Crystal Should You Wear and Why?

June 2026 · Star's Crystals

Wearing crystals is one of the most effortless and effective ways to work with their energy. When a crystal is in direct contact with your skin, its vibration interacts with your own energy field continuously throughout the day — far more powerfully than a crystal sitting on a shelf. But with so many crystals available, how do you know which one to wear?

"The crystal you're most drawn to is usually the one you most need. Trust that pull." ✦

How to Choose a Crystal to Wear

There are two approaches — intuitive and intentional. The intuitive approach is simply to notice which crystal you keep reaching for, which ones catch your eye or which ones feel right in your hand. Your energy knows what it needs. The intentional approach is to identify what you want more of in your life — protection, love, confidence, clarity — and choose a crystal associated with that quality.

Crystals by Intention

FOR PROTECTION — Black Tourmaline or Labradorite

Black tourmaline creates a powerful protective shield, repelling negative energy and grounding your field. Labradorite protects the aura and deflects unwanted energy while strengthening your intuition. Both are brilliant for sensitive people, empaths or anyone who works in high-energy environments.

FOR CALM AND ANXIETY RELIEF — Amethyst

Amethyst worn close to the body continuously works to calm the nervous system, quiet overthinking and ease anxiety. Our amethyst wire wrapped pendant and amethyst moon slice pendant both keep this beautiful stone in your energy field all day — perfect for anyone who struggles with anxiety or racing thoughts.

FOR LOVE AND SELF-WORTH — Rose Quartz

Rose quartz worn near the heart chakra — on a pendant or bracelet — continuously radiates gentle, loving energy. It softens self-criticism, attracts loving connections and reminds you of your own worth. If you're working on self-love or calling in a relationship, rose quartz jewellery is your ally.

FOR CONFIDENCE AND COURAGE — Tiger's Eye or Carnelian

Tiger's eye on a bracelet or pendant boosts confidence, grounds scattered energy and helps you feel capable and strong. Carnelian ignites motivation, creativity and passion — wear it when you need to take bold action or show up fully in the world.

FOR INTUITION AND SPIRITUAL GROWTH — Labradorite or Moonstone

Labradorite is perhaps the most powerful stone for awakening intuition and psychic ability. Our natural labradorite flash pendant — with its stunning iridescent flash — carries this energy beautifully. Moonstone connects you to feminine wisdom, cycles and deep inner knowing.

FOR FOCUS AND CLARITY — Clear Quartz or Lapis Lazuli

Clear quartz amplifies your intentions and brings mental clarity. Lapis lazuli activates the third eye and throat chakra — enhancing wisdom, truth and the ability to communicate clearly. Wear either when you need to think sharply or speak your truth.

FOR ABUNDANCE — Citrine or Green Aventurine

Citrine is the stone of abundance and solar energy — wear it to attract prosperity and maintain an optimistic outlook. Green aventurine opens doors and attracts opportunity — our aventurine crescent moon pendant carries this lucky energy beautifully.

Which Hand Should You Wear Your Crystal Bracelet On?

Your non-dominant hand is your receiving hand — it draws energy in. Wear crystals for receiving on this hand — rose quartz for love, green aventurine for luck, amethyst for calm. Your dominant hand is your giving hand — it projects energy out. Wear crystals for protection or grounding on this hand — black tourmaline, obsidian or haematite.

Do Crystals Need to Touch Your Skin?

Direct skin contact is most powerful, but even crystals worn over clothing carry energy. What matters most is that you wear them with intention — knowing why you've chosen them and what you're asking them to support.

New Moon in Cancer July 2026 — A Ritual for New Beginnings

July 2026 · Star's Crystals

The new moon on 24th July 2026 falls in Cancer — the sign of home, family, emotional roots and deep inner knowing. Cancer is ruled by the moon itself, which means this new moon carries an extra layer of intuitive, emotionally rich energy. It is one of the most powerful new moons of the year for setting intentions that come from the heart rather than the head — for new beginnings rooted in feeling, belonging and authentic self-care.

"The Cancer new moon asks — what does your soul truly need? Not what looks good or sounds right. What do you actually need to feel at home in your life?" ✦

The Energy of the Cancer New Moon

New moons are always a time for planting seeds — for setting intentions, beginning new chapters and calling in what you want to grow over the coming month and beyond. With the moon in Cancer, the themes are deeply personal and emotional. This is the new moon for intentions around home and family, emotional healing and security, deepening your intuition, self-nurturing and care, and creating spaces and relationships where you truly belong.

Cancer energy is sensitive, intuitive and deeply feeling. The intentions you set under this moon will be most powerful when they come from a place of genuine emotional truth rather than logic or external pressure. Ask yourself what you actually feel, not what you think you should feel.

Crystals for the Cancer New Moon

MOONSTONE

Moonstone is the perfect crystal for this lunation — deeply connected to the moon, to feminine energy and to Cancer's intuitive, cyclical nature. Work with moonstone to deepen your connection to your own inner knowing and to set intentions aligned with your authentic emotional truth.

ROSE QUARTZ

For intentions around love, self-care and creating warmth in your home and relationships, rose quartz is your ally under this moon.

SELENITE

Selenite's cleansing, high-vibrational energy is perfect for the new moon — clearing away what remains from the previous cycle and creating a clean energetic slate for your new intentions.

LABRADORITE

For strengthening intuition and trusting your inner guidance — a core Cancer theme — labradorite is deeply supportive under this moon.

New Moon in Cancer Ritual

WHAT YOU NEED

A white or silver candle, your journal, a pen, your chosen crystals, and something comforting — a warm drink, a cosy blanket, soft music. This is a moon for softness.

STEP 1 — CREATE A SOFT, SACRED SPACE

Dim the lights. Light your candle. Make yourself genuinely comfortable — Cancer energy responds to physical comfort and warmth. This isn't a harsh, high-intensity ritual. It's a gentle, tender one.

STEP 2 — CHECK IN WITH YOUR FEELINGS

Before you set any intentions, simply check in. How are you really feeling? What emotions have been present lately? What have you been avoiding feeling? Write it all out without judgement. Cancer new moon intentions are most powerful when they emerge from honest emotional awareness.

STEP 3 — SET YOUR INTENTIONS

Write your intentions in your journal. Focus on emotional wellbeing, home, belonging, relationships and self-care. Use feeling language — "I feel safe and at home in my life." "I am deeply loved and deeply loving." "I trust my intuition completely."

STEP 4 — CHARGE YOUR CRYSTALS

Place your crystals on your windowsill overnight under the new moon sky. Even without visible moonlight, the lunar energy is present and powerful.

STEP 5 — NURTURE YOURSELF

Close your ritual with an act of genuine self-care — a bath, a nourishing meal, early rest. Cancer energy is fed by nurturing, and what you do for yourself on this night is itself a ritual. ✦

ASTROLOGY

Mercury Retrograde — What it Really Means and Crystals to Survive It

July 2026 · Star's Crystals

Few things in the spiritual calendar inspire as much collective dread as Mercury retrograde. The moment it's announced, social media fills with warnings about communication disasters, technology failures and general chaos. But Mercury retrograde gets a worse reputation than it deserves — and understanding what it actually means will help you not just survive it, but use it well.

"Mercury retrograde isn't something that happens to you. It's an invitation — to slow down, review and reflect." ✦

What is Mercury Retrograde?

Mercury retrograde occurs when Mercury appears to move backward in the sky from our perspective on Earth. It's an optical illusion caused by the relative speeds of Earth and Mercury in their orbits — Mercury isn't actually moving backward, it just looks that way. This happens three or four times a year, lasting approximately three weeks each time.

In astrology, Mercury governs communication, technology, travel, contracts and the mind. When it appears to move backward, these areas of life tend to become more prone to misunderstandings, delays, technical glitches and the resurfacing of unresolved issues.

What Actually Happens During Mercury Retrograde

The honest answer is that Mercury retrograde amplifies what's already there. If your communication in a relationship is already unclear, retrograde may bring that to a head. If your technology is already unreliable, this period may see it fail. It's less about Mercury causing chaos and more about the energy of the period drawing our attention to things that need addressing.

The recurring themes during Mercury retrograde are miscommunication and misunderstandings, technology and travel delays, contracts and agreements needing review, old contacts, exes or situations from the past resurfacing, and a general sense of things feeling foggy or slow.

What Mercury Retrograde is Actually Good For

The prefix "re" is your guide during this period. Mercury retrograde is brilliant for reviewing, reflecting, revisiting, reconnecting, resting and reassessing. It's a cosmic invitation to slow down, look back and make sure the foundations are solid before moving forward. The worst thing you can do in retrograde is force new beginnings — the best thing is to review what already exists.

Crystals for Mercury Retrograde

AMAZONITE — Clear Communication

Amazonite is the stone of clear, calm communication. It helps you express yourself with clarity and truth, and listen with genuine openness — both of which are essential during a period prone to misunderstanding.

FLUORITE — Mental Clarity

Fluorite cuts through confusion and brings mental order to chaos. When retrograde makes everything feel foggy and unclear, fluorite helps you think straight and see situations with greater objectivity.

BLACK TOURMALINE — Protection

For the general energetic chaos that can accompany retrograde, black tourmaline is your shield. It deflects negative energy, grounds scattered thoughts and creates a sense of stability when everything feels uncertain.

AMETHYST — Patience and Calm

Perhaps the most useful retrograde crystal of all — amethyst helps you slow down, stay patient and avoid the reactive communication that causes so many retrograde conflicts. Wear it, hold it, keep it close.

LABRADORITE — Protection and Intuition

Labradorite protects the aura and strengthens intuition — helping you navigate the murky waters of retrograde with greater confidence in your own inner knowing.

Summer is festival and event season — and whether you're at a music festival, a craft market, a spiritual fair or simply a large family gathering, big crowds mean big energy. For sensitive people and empaths especially, spending hours in a crowd can leave you feeling utterly depleted, overwhelmed or emotionally wrung out in ways that are hard to explain. Here's how to protect and maintain your energy so you can actually enjoy yourself.

"You are allowed to be in the world without absorbing all of it. Protection isn't about shutting yourself off — it's about staying yourself." ✦

Why Crowds Drain Your Energy

Every person carries an energy field — an aura that extends beyond the physical body. In a crowd, these energy fields overlap and interact constantly. For sensitive people, this means unconsciously absorbing the emotions, stress and energy of dozens or hundreds of other people. You might arrive feeling great and leave feeling inexplicably anxious, irritable or exhausted — and it's not yours. You've simply picked it up.

Crystals for Energy Protection at Events

BLACK TOURMALINE — The Ultimate Shield

This is the number one crystal to have on your person at any large event. Black tourmaline creates a powerful energetic shield that deflects negative energy and prevents you from absorbing the emotional debris of the crowd. Wear it as a bracelet, carry a tumble stone in your pocket or bag or wear it as a pendant.

LABRADORITE — Aura Protection

Labradorite seals and strengthens your aura — creating a protective iridescent shield that keeps your energy in and others' energy out. It's particularly powerful for festivals and spiritual events where energy can be very heightened.

AMETHYST — Calm in the Chaos

Amethyst worn throughout a busy event helps maintain your inner calm regardless of what's happening around you. It also helps prevent sensory overwhelm — keeping you grounded and centred when stimulation levels are high.

HAEMATITE — Grounding

Haematite is one of the most grounding crystals available. If crowds make you feel anxious, floaty or disconnected from your body, haematite pulls you back down to earth quickly and effectively. Keep a piece in your pocket and hold it when you feel unmoored.

Before You Go — Energy Preparation

During the Event

After the Event — Energy Clearing

After any large gathering, an energy clearing is essential. Take a shower or bath with Himalayan salt — visualise all accumulated energy washing away down the drain. Burn sage or Palo Santo through your home and around your body. Spend quiet time alone to re-establish your own energetic baseline. Cleanse your crystals — they will have worked hard.

WITCHCRAFT

The Different Types of Witches — Which One Are You?

July 2026 · Star's Crystals

Modern witchcraft is beautifully diverse — there is no single right way to practise, and the paths within it are as varied as the people who walk them. Whether you're just beginning to explore or you've been practising for years, understanding the different types of witches and magical traditions can help you find the path that feels most authentically yours.

"You don't have to fit neatly into one category. Most witches are a blend of many paths — and that is exactly as it should be." ✦

Green Witch

The green witch's practice is rooted in the natural world — in plants, herbs, trees, seasons and the energy of the earth. They work closely with the magical and medicinal properties of botanicals, create herb blends and plant-based remedies, tend gardens with intention and draw their power from the living world around them. Green witchcraft is deeply practical and sensory — it smells of rosemary and rain and woodsmoke.

If you feel most at home outdoors, love working with herbs and plants and feel a deep connection to the seasons and natural cycles, green witchcraft may be your path.

Kitchen Witch

The kitchen witch brings magic into the most everyday of spaces — the home and the hearth. Their practice is woven into cooking, baking, cleaning and the creation of a home that is both physically and energetically nourishing. Every meal is an act of intention, every herb added to a recipe chosen for its magical properties as much as its flavour. Kitchen witchcraft is cosy, domestic and deeply grounding.

If you find magic in nourishing others, love the ritual of preparing food and feel your home as a sacred space, kitchen witchcraft will resonate deeply.

Hedge Witch

The hedge witch is a walker between worlds — someone who works at the boundary between the physical and spiritual realms. They often have a strong connection to dreamwork, trance states, spirit communication and the unseen world. The "hedge" refers to the boundary between the mundane and magical worlds, and the hedge witch moves freely between them. This is a deeply intuitive, often solitary path.

If you have vivid dreams, a strong connection to spirits or ancestors and a natural ability to perceive energy and the unseen, hedge witchcraft may call to you.

Sea Witch

The sea witch draws their power from water — from the ocean, rivers, rain and the moon's pull on the tides. Their practice incorporates sea glass, shells, salt water, sand and the energy of the deep. They are often deeply connected to lunar cycles and to the emotional, intuitive, changeable nature of water. Sea witchcraft tends to be fluid, emotional and deeply connected to the rhythms of the natural world.

If you feel called to water, find the ocean deeply healing and work well with lunar and emotional energy, sea witchcraft may be your element.

Crystal Witch

The crystal witch works primarily with the energy of stones and minerals — building deep relationships with individual crystals, using them in ritual, healing work, divination and energy practice. They tend to have large and carefully curated collections and an intuitive understanding of which stone is needed for any given situation. Crystal witches often also work with pendulums, crystal grids and stone casting as divination tools.

If crystals are your first love, if you feel drawn to their energy and find yourself building a collection almost without trying — welcome. You're probably a crystal witch.

Eclectic Witch

The eclectic witch draws from many traditions, paths and practices — taking what resonates and leaving what doesn't, building a practice that is entirely their own. This is by far the most common path in modern witchcraft and arguably the most authentic, because it prioritises personal truth over tradition. An eclectic witch might combine crystal work with green witchcraft, kitchen magic and lunar rituals — whatever feels right and true for them.

If you don't fit neatly into any one category, if you draw from multiple traditions and follow your intuition above all else — you're probably an eclectic witch. Which is to say, you're in excellent company.

Solitary vs Coven Practice

Beyond the type of witchcraft, practitioners also differ in whether they work alone or in community. Solitary witches — sometimes called solitaries — practise independently, following their own path without the structure of a group. Covens are groups of witches who practise together, often following a shared tradition. Both are valid. Many witches begin as solitaries and later find community, or move between the two depending on their season of life.

A Note on Cultural Sensitivity

As you explore the many paths within witchcraft, it's important to approach traditions that don't belong to your own cultural background with respect and awareness. Some practices — such as the use of white sage and Palo Santo — come from specific indigenous traditions and should be approached with care and gratitude for their origins. Research the roots of any practice you adopt and ensure you're sourcing materials ethically.

SEASONAL RITUAL

Summer Rituals — How to Work With the Energy of the Season

July 2026 · Star's Crystals

Summer is a season of fire, light and fullness. The sun is at its most powerful, nature is abundant, and the world feels expansive and alive. In magical practice, summer — and particularly the period around the Summer Solstice — is considered one of the most potent times of year for ritual work. The veil between intention and manifestation feels thinner. Energy moves faster. What you put out comes back more quickly.

If you've been sitting on a goal, a decision or a desire — summer is the season to act on it.

The sun is your greatest ally in summer. Work with its energy consciously — face east in the morning for new beginnings, south at noon for power and drive, and west at dusk for releasing what no longer serves. ✦

What Summer Energy Is Good For

Each season carries its own magical signature. Summer is ruled by fire and the element of the south. Its energy is active, outward, courageous and expansive. It is the season of confidence, visibility, abundance, action and passion. It's also the season of the solar plexus chakra — personal power, identity and will.

Use summer's energy for: confidence and self-belief work, abundance and prosperity rituals, love and passion, creative projects you want to bring to life, banishing fear and self-doubt, and stepping into visibility — being seen, heard and recognised.

The Summer Solstice Ritual

The Summer Solstice (around 21st June in the UK) is the longest day of the year and the peak of solar power. It's a perfect time for a simple but potent solar ritual.

Light a yellow or gold candle at dawn or at noon — the sun's highest point. Write three things you want to bring fully into your life by the autumn. Speak them aloud as intentions, not wishes: "I am calling in..." rather than "I want..." Hold a piece of citrine or clear quartz while you speak — both amplify solar energy beautifully. Let the candle burn down safely.

Sun Water

One of the simplest and most powerful summer practices is making sun water. Place a glass jar of clean water outside or on a sunny windowsill at sunrise. Leave it for the whole day, allowing the sun's energy to charge the water. Bring it in before sunset. Use sun water to cleanse your crystals, anoint your candles, add to a ritual bath or drink it mindfully as a way of drawing solar energy into your body. Add a piece of citrine to the jar for extra abundance energy.

Fire Rituals

Summer and fire go hand in hand. If you have access to a safe outdoor fire — a fire pit, a beach bonfire, even a barbecue — writing something on paper and burning it is one of the most direct and powerful release rituals you can do. Write down what you're releasing — fear, a relationship pattern, a limiting belief, a habit — and offer it to the fire with intention. As it burns, say: "I release this. I am free." Then let it go completely.

If you're working indoors, a candle flame serves the same purpose. Write on a small piece of paper, hold it at the edge of the flame (safely, over a heatproof dish) and release it.

Crystals for Summer

The best crystals for summer work are sun-aligned and fire-element stones. Citrine is the ultimate summer crystal — joyful, abundant, solar and warm. Sunstone brings vitality and confidence. Carnelian fuels passion and creativity. Tiger's Eye gives grounded courage. Clear Quartz amplifies whatever intention you're working with and is particularly powerful when charged in direct summer sunlight.

A Simple Daily Summer Practice

You don't need elaborate rituals to work with summer energy. Simply spending time in direct sunlight with conscious intention — standing barefoot on grass, hands open, face turned upward for even five minutes — is a genuine energetic practice. Feel the warmth on your skin. Breathe in. Say thank you. That's ritual. That's enough.

SPELLWORK

The Best Days of the Week for Spells — A Witch's Guide to Planetary Days

July 2026 · Star's Crystals

One of the lesser-known but deeply effective tools in a witch's practice is the planetary day system — a tradition that dates back thousands of years through astrology, alchemy and folk magic. Each day of the week is governed by a planet, and each planet carries a specific type of energy. Timing your spells and rituals to align with the right planetary day can meaningfully amplify your work.

It sounds complicated. It isn't. Once you know which day is which, it becomes second nature.

You don't have to do elaborate ritual on the right day — even lighting a candle, setting an intention or wearing a specific crystal on the aligned day is enough to draw on that planetary energy. ✦

Monday — The Moon

Monday is ruled by the Moon. Its energy is intuitive, emotional, psychic and deeply feminine. Monday is the best day for: dream work and divination, emotional healing, working with the subconscious, matters of the home and family, psychic development, fertility and cycles, and any work connected to water or the tides of feeling.

Crystals: Moonstone, selenite, labradorite, pearl, aquamarine. Colours: White, silver, pale blue.

Tuesday — Mars

Tuesday is ruled by Mars, the planet of action, courage and conflict. Tuesday's energy is fierce, direct and driven. Use it for: protection magic, banishing and cord cutting, spells requiring bold action or courage, overcoming obstacles, setting firm boundaries, physical energy and endurance, and any situation requiring strength.

Crystals: Red jasper, bloodstone, garnet, black tourmaline. Colours: Red, black, orange.

Wednesday — Mercury

Wednesday belongs to Mercury, the planet of communication, intellect, travel and trickery. This is the best day for: communication spells (job interviews, difficult conversations, negotiations), travel protection, learning and study, writing, technology and business matters, contracts and agreements, and spells involving quick change or speed.

Crystals: Clear quartz, citrine, agate, fluorite. Colours: Yellow, orange, multicolour.

Thursday — Jupiter

Thursday is ruled by Jupiter — the planet of expansion, abundance, luck and higher wisdom. It is arguably the luckiest day of the week for prosperity work. Use Thursday for: abundance and money spells, legal matters and justice, growth in business or career, travel to new places, higher education and wisdom, attracting good fortune, and expanding any area of your life.

Crystals: Citrine, pyrite, green aventurine, tiger's eye, amethyst. Colours: Purple, green, gold.

Friday — Venus

Friday is Venus's day — the planet of love, beauty, pleasure and relationships. It is the classic day for love spells, but Venus rules far more than romance. Use Friday for: love and relationship magic, self-love and confidence, beauty and glamour, friendships and social connection, creativity and the arts, fertility and sensuality, and attracting what you desire.

Crystals: Rose quartz, rhodonite, malachite, emerald, pink tourmaline. Colours: Pink, green, copper.

Saturday — Saturn

Saturday is Saturn's day — the planet of boundaries, discipline, time and endings. Saturday carries heavy, slow, serious energy. It is not a day for light or joyful spells — it is a day for deep, serious work. Use Saturday for: banishing and removal of negativity or unwanted people, protection and warding, binding spells, ancestor work, breaking bad habits, shadow work, binding legal matters, and endings of all kinds.

Crystals: Black obsidian, smoky quartz, black tourmaline, onyx, apache tears. Colours: Black, dark grey, indigo.

Sunday — The Sun

Sunday is ruled by the Sun — the planet of life force, success, identity and healing. It carries bright, expansive, outward energy. Sunday is ideal for: success spells of any kind, healing work, boosting confidence and personal power, solar rituals, gratitude and abundance, work involving leadership or recognition, and anything you want to grow, shine or be seen.

Crystals: Citrine, sunstone, carnelian, clear quartz, amber. Colours: Gold, yellow, orange, white.

A Few Practical Notes

You don't need to wait for the perfect day to do any ritual — intention is always the most powerful ingredient. But if you have flexibility, timing your work to align with the relevant planetary day adds an extra layer of resonance. Even something as simple as writing your intention down on the right day, or burning a candle in the aligned colour, counts as conscious magical timing.

GREEN WITCH

Foraging for Witches — What to Look For, What to Avoid, and How to Do It Safely

July 2026 · Star's Crystals

Foraging — gathering wild plants, herbs, flowers and berries directly from nature — is one of the oldest and most grounding magical practices there is. Long before witches had herb shops and online suppliers, they walked hedgerows, meadows and woodlands gathering the plants they needed for healing, ritual and magic. Reconnecting with that practice, even in a small way, is a profound act of green witchcraft.

But it comes with real responsibility. Misidentifying plants is not just a minor mistake — in some cases, it can be fatal. This guide will help you forage wisely, safely and with respect.

The golden rule of foraging: if you are not 100% certain of an identification, do not pick it, touch it, or eat it. No exception. ✦

The Right Mindset for Foraging

Approach foraging as a relationship, not a harvest. You are entering nature as a guest. Always ask — in whatever way feels right to you — before you take. Only take what you need, never more than a third of what's available in any one spot, and leave plenty for wildlife. Foraging irresponsibly depletes the very ecosystems we depend on.

In the UK, it is legal to forage for personal use on most public land, but you cannot uproot plants without the landowner's permission, and some protected species cannot be picked at all. Always check before you go.

What to Bring

A good foraging trip needs: a reliable field guide specific to the UK (such as Roger Phillips' Wild Food or the Collins Complete Guide to British Wild Flowers), a small knife or scissors for clean cuts, paper bags or a basket (avoid plastic — plants sweat and deteriorate quickly), and gloves if you're harvesting anything with thorns or potential skin irritants. A phone with a plant identification app (like iNaturalist or PlantNet) can help, but should never replace proper identification from a physical guide.

Common Herbs Worth Foraging in the UK

Nettles (Urtica dioica)

One of the most powerful and widely available wild plants in the UK. Young spring nettles are edible and nutritious — full of iron and vitamins. Magically, nettles are protective, purifying and used in healing and banishing work. Harvest with gloves, taking only the top few leaves of young plants. Dry thoroughly for ritual use or use fresh (cooking or steeping removes the sting).

Elder (Sambucus nigra)

The elder tree is deeply sacred in British folk magic — considered a gateway to the fairy world and a tree of powerful protection. Elderflowers (available in early summer) make beautiful infusions and have cooling, calming properties. Elderberries (autumn) are immune-boosting and used in magic for protection and abundance. Note: raw elder leaves, bark, and unripe berries are mildly toxic. Only use ripe berries, cooked.

Mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris)

One of the most important magical herbs you can forage in the UK. Mugwort is strongly associated with dreams, psychic ability, the moon and the feminine. It grows abundantly along roadsides, riverbanks and waste ground. Dry and burn as incense before divination or dreamwork, or make a simple tea (one teaspoon of dried herb, steeped ten minutes — avoid in pregnancy).

Yarrow (Achillea millefolium)

Yarrow has been used in magic and medicine for thousands of years — Achilles was said to use it to heal his soldiers' wounds. In the UK it grows in meadows and along roadsides from June to September. Magically it is used for courage, protection and divination. The white or pink flowers dry beautifully and look stunning on an altar.

Blackberries (Rubus fruticosus)

Widely available from August onwards, blackberries are one of the safest plants to forage — nothing looks like them. They are used in kitchen magic for abundance and sweetness, and make beautiful offerings. Harvest from unpolluted areas well away from busy roadsides.

SAFETY

Deadly Plants You Might Walk Past Every Day — Know Before You Forage

July 2026 · Star's Crystals

Britain's countryside is stunning, abundant — and in places, genuinely dangerous. Some of the most beautiful and common plants growing in hedgerows, woodlands, parks and even gardens are highly toxic. A few are potentially fatal even in small amounts. This isn't meant to scare you away from nature — it's meant to help you move through it safely and confidently.

Whether you're a forager, a green witch, a parent walking with children, or simply someone who spends time outdoors, knowing these plants could one day matter enormously.

If you think you or someone else has ingested a toxic plant, call 999 or go to A&E immediately. Do not wait for symptoms. If possible, take a photo of the plant or bring a sample. ✦

Deadly Nightshade (Atropa belladonna)

Perhaps the most infamous poisonous plant in Britain, and for good reason. All parts of deadly nightshade are extremely toxic — the berries especially so, and they are sweet-tasting, which makes them particularly dangerous to children. The berries are shiny, black and resemble blueberries or cherries. The plant has dull, oval leaves and drooping purple-brown bell-shaped flowers. It grows in disturbed ground, woodland edges, scrub and old ruins, mostly in southern England. Even skin contact with the leaves can cause reactions in sensitive individuals. Do not touch. Do not eat. Keep children well away.

Hemlock (Conium maculatum)

Hemlock is one of the most dangerous plants in the UK — it killed Socrates. It is tall (up to two metres), with hollow purple-spotted stems and white umbrella-shaped flower clusters that look very similar to cow parsley, elderflower, and several edible plants. The key distinguishing feature is the unpleasant musty smell when any part is crushed. It grows commonly in damp areas — riverbanks, roadsides, waste ground and field margins. Never harvest any white-flowered umbellifers (carrot-family plants) unless you are completely certain of identification.

Hemlock Water Dropwort (Oenanthe crocata)

Considered by many botanists to be the most deadly plant in Britain. It grows in wet habitats — riverbanks, ditches, marshes — and looks deceptively similar to edible plants like parsley and water celery. The roots have been mistaken for parsnips with fatal results. All parts are extremely toxic. If you are foraging near water, be aware that this plant is common and its resemblance to edible species is dangerous. Never eat anything root-like found in or near water without absolute certainty of identification.

Foxglove (Digitalis purpurea)

Foxgloves are one of Britain's most recognisable and beloved wildflowers — and one of its most toxic. The tall spikes of purple (occasionally white or pink) spotted tubular flowers are unmistakable in flower, but the first-year rosette of leaves can be mistaken for comfrey, which is used medicinally and in green witch practice. All parts of the foxglove — leaves, flowers, seeds — are highly toxic. They contain digitalin, which affects the heart. Never consume any part. Wear gloves when handling.

Lords and Ladies / Cuckoo Pint (Arum maculatum)

This common woodland plant is found throughout the UK, often in the same hedgerows and shady spots where foragers look for edible plants. In autumn it produces bright orange-red berries in clusters on a bare stem — they are eye-catching and highly toxic, particularly to children. The leaves are arrow-shaped, often with dark spots. All parts cause intense burning and swelling of the mouth and throat if consumed. Teach children that these berries are never to be touched.

Yew (Taxus baccata)

Yew trees are ancient, sacred and deeply toxic. Common in churchyards and as garden hedging throughout Britain. The bright red berries (technically arils) are the only part not poisonous — but the seeds inside them are lethal, and all other parts of the plant (leaves, bark, branches) are highly toxic to humans and animals. Never burn yew wood — the smoke is toxic. Never allow animals to graze near yew. Keep children away from the berries even though the flesh is technically edible, as spitting out the seed reliably is difficult.

White Bryony (Bryonia dioica)

A climbing hedgerow plant with small white flowers and bright red berries in autumn. It is sometimes confused with black bryony (a different plant, also toxic). The berries look appealing and are dangerously poisonous. The roots are also toxic and have historically been confused with edible roots. Found in hedgerows and scrubby woodland throughout England.

Monkshood / Wolfsbane (Aconitum napellus)

Monkshood is one of the most poisonous plants in Europe — it is toxic through skin contact alone. The distinctive hooded blue-purple flowers make it relatively easy to identify when in bloom (June–September), but the leaves earlier in the season can resemble other plants. It grows wild in damp, shady spots in western Britain and is also very commonly grown in gardens. Never touch without gloves. Do not allow children to handle it. Wash hands immediately after any contact.

A Note on Magical Use of Toxic Plants

Some of the most historically significant plants in witchcraft — belladonna, henbane, monkshood, hemlock — are deeply toxic. They appear throughout folk magic traditions, but their use was always the province of highly trained practitioners who understood the risks. Unless you have extensive specialist training, there is no safe way to use these plants directly, and no ritual purpose requires you to do so. Modern witchcraft has abundant, safe alternatives. Your practice does not require you to put yourself in danger.

Work safely, work wisely, and explore our ethically sourced herb blends — all safe, all intentional. ✦
