WAX MELTS
Wax melts are one of the easiest ways to scent a room. There's no flame in the wax itself, no wick to trim, and you can swap scents whenever you like. But getting the best from them takes a little know-how. Here's a simple guide to using a wax melt burner safely and making your melts last.
Most wax melt burners are heated by a tealight candle underneath. Some are electric. Pick one with a sturdy base and a dish that holds the melted wax securely. Always place it on a heat-safe, level surface, away from curtains, shelves and anything flammable.
A new tealight gives a steadier heat. For tealight burners, use one tealight at a time, and replace it when it's burned down.
Add one or two pieces of wax melt to the dish. Larger spaces can take a little more, but too much wax can overheat and weaken the scent faster. You can always add more.
Keep the burner out of reach of children and pets, and never leave it burning when you leave the room or go to bed. Extinguish the tealight when you've finished and let everything cool completely before touching it.
When you can no longer smell it, the melt has done its job. Don't keep topping up old wax. Let it cool, remove the used wax and start again with a fresh piece.
The easiest way to remove old wax is to let it set, then pop it out. If any is stuck, a cotton pad or tissue wiped around the dish while it's still warm (and safe to touch) takes off the rest. A clean dish stops scents from mixing.
Keep wax melts in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight, ideally in a sealed bag or box so the scent stays strong.
Wax melts are ideal if you like to change scents often, or if you prefer to have no open flame in the wax itself. See our guide to wax melts vs candles to compare them. Our wax melts are handmade in Grantham with 100% natural soy wax, and are vegan and paraffin-free.
