Tektites, Moldavite and My Personal Journey — When the Stone Works Too Well

September 2026 · Star's Crystals

I want to tell you something about moldavite. Not the polished version — not the "high vibrational transformation stone that will elevate your consciousness" version you see on crystal shop websites. I want to tell you what it actually did to my life. Because if you are considering working with moldavite, you deserve to know what you might be getting into.

But first — the science. Because moldavite is genuinely extraordinary, and understanding what it actually is makes the energy work make more sense.

What Are Tektites?

Tektites are a class of natural glass formed from terrestrial debris that was melted, vaporised and flung into the atmosphere by the impact of meteorites or asteroids hitting the earth. The name comes from the Greek word tēktos, meaning "molten." When a large space rock strikes the earth at speed, the impact generates so much heat and pressure that rock is instantly vaporised and thrown upward — sometimes as high as the upper atmosphere. As it falls back to earth and cools rapidly, it solidifies into glass. That glass is a tektite.

Tektites are found in specific "strewn fields" across the earth — areas where the debris from a particular impact landed. They are scientifically fascinating because they carry a chemical signature that is distinctly non-volcanic — they are genuinely formed from the collision of space and earth, of cosmic event and terrestrial material. They are, in a very real sense, the record of an ancient catastrophe that became something beautiful.

Types of Tektites

Australites are found across Australia and Southeast Asia and come from the Australasian strewn field — one of the largest on earth, formed approximately 790,000 years ago. Indochinites are found across Southeast Asia. Bediasites come from Texas. Moldavite — the most famous and spiritually significant of all tektites — comes from the Czech Republic and is the only tektite that is green, formed from the Nördlinger Ries impact in Germany approximately 14.8 million years ago.

Moldavite — The Stone of Rapid Transformation

Moldavite is a bottle-green natural glass found only in a small region of Bohemia in the Czech Republic. Because it is formed from the fusion of terrestrial rock and cosmic energy — of earth and sky — it carries an energy that is unlike anything else in the mineral kingdom. It is not fully of this earth. And you can feel that.

Holding moldavite for the first time often produces what practitioners call the "moldavite flush" — a wave of heat that moves through the body, sometimes accompanied by tingling, light-headedness or intense emotion. This is not imagination. It is widely reported across cultures, traditions and levels of experience. The stone simply has a strong energetic charge.

In crystal healing, moldavite is associated with accelerated spiritual evolution, rapid transformation and the removal of what no longer serves you. The key word there is rapid. And removal.

Moldavite does not gently guide you toward change. It rips away what is not serving you and clears the path forward — whether you feel ready or not. This is why it has the reputation it does. ✦

My Story

I got my moldavite during one of the hardest periods of my life — though I didn't know quite how hard things were about to get. Within a couple of days of bringing it home, I received news that a family member had passed away. I was already reeling from grief when I came home to find my partner at the time with another woman in our shared house.

What happened next was the beginning of the end of that relationship. And good. Because the truth was, it had needed to end long before that night. He was physically and mentally abusive, a compulsive liar, and I had been blinded — by love, by fear, by not having the mental strength to leave on my own. The place we lived was a shared house where he also had a room, and it was not a peaceful environment. There was constant noise, arguments, tension.

At the time, it felt like my world was collapsing. Grief, betrayal and displacement all at once. I remember asking: how could this be happening? How can everything fall apart at the same moment?

But that's what moldavite does. It doesn't cause the collapse — it reveals what was already broken. It accelerates what was inevitable. It removes the things that were blocking your path forward, even when you were too close to see them as blockages.

I moved out. And then something shifted.

I am now with someone who is everything the person before him was not — caring, gentle, honest, genuinely loving. We are building a life together and for the first time in many years, I feel like I am on the right path. I started this business. I picked up the hobbies I had quietly forgotten about over years of being in survival mode. I remembered who I was.

I look back now and I understand what the moldavite did. It didn't destroy my life — it cleared out everything that was preventing me from living one. The loss, the heartbreak, the chaos — all of it was the old life falling away to make room for the real one.

Would I have got there without it? Eventually, maybe. But moldavite has a way of compressing time.

Should You Work With Moldavite?

Honestly — only you can answer that. Here is what I would say: moldavite is not a beginner stone. It is not something to work with casually or to wear every day without intention. If your life is stable and you are happy with the foundations you have built, think carefully before introducing this much acceleration.

But if you know — in that quiet, knowing place — that things need to change, that you are stuck, that something in your life is not right and you don't have the strength or clarity to move it yourself — moldavite has a way of doing it for you. It is not gentle. But it is thorough. And on the other side, in my experience, there is more peace and more freedom than I knew was possible.

Ground yourself well when working with moldavite. Pair it with black tourmaline or smoky quartz to keep yourself anchored. Don't wear it all day every day — work with it intentionally, in short sessions, and give yourself time to integrate.

And trust the process. Even when it doesn't feel like one. ✦
