Walk into any shop and you'll find candles everywhere. But not all candles are made equal — and the difference matters more than you might think, both for your health and for the planet.
Most cheap candles are made from paraffin wax — a petroleum by-product derived from crude oil. When burned, paraffin releases toxic chemicals including benzene and toluene, which are known carcinogens. It also produces more soot, which can stain your walls and irritate your lungs.
Soy wax is made from soybean oil — a natural, renewable resource. It burns cleaner, slower and cooler than paraffin, meaning no harmful toxins in your air, minimal soot, and a longer lasting candle. It's also biodegradable and much better for the environment.
At Star's Crystals we use Nature Wax C3 for our container candles — one of the most trusted soy waxes used by professional candle makers. For our sculpted wax melts and shaped pieces, we use Kerasoy Pillar Wax — a biodegradable soy blend that holds beautiful detail in moulds.
